Interview Details –
The recruiter reviews the resumes (no computer parsing) and calls the top candidates to find out why they want the job, why they chose Bayview, and what they are expecting (work conditions, pay, etc.).
Candidates who seem like a best fit (and who have done their homework on the company) are invited to interview with the hiring manager (usually a VP or higher). This interview focuses on "tell me about a time when you had to deal with..." questions (behavioral). However, the hiring manager also tells you how to answer the questions (STAR = what was the Situation, what were you Thinking, what Actions you took, and what Results you got).
I was also asked questions about how I would handle some very specific work challenges. I found out after I was hired that those situations were not hypothetical! I was expected do what I had said I would do during the interview. Thank goodness I remembered all of my answers.
The final screen is a drug and background check. Given the nature of the industry and the company's clients they do this step on several final candidates. If anyone fails they cannot hire them so they don't want to have someone turn in their two weeks notice without knowing for sure that they can hire them. I liked that, but the other candidates that were not selected were probably annoyed - thinking that they had been chosen if they were going through that step. At least they did not quit their other jobs!
Interview Question – Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a hiring manager that wanted to select a candidate who was (in your opinion) not the most qualified candidate. View Answer
