Declined Offer – Interviewed in Chicago, IL Sep 2012 – Reviewed Oct 25, 2012

Interview Details – I got a call about 2 weeks after I put in my application. FIrst interview was over the phone where the lady went over my availability, three departments i would work at, and some other thing. 2nd interview was a few days after and she asked me the same questions shown here mostly all about customer service and she told me should call in 3-4 days. A week later the manager called me to come in the next day for another interview, again, all questions are posted here which helped a lot!! He told me he would call in 3-4 days and he called within the hour to come in to interview with someone else. At this point you get excited thinking you got the job. I came in for the 4th interview and another manager went through the same application as the other two and she told me to try to sell her a box of tissues. It all went well and she told me she would call in 3-4 days. I was furious when I left, was I applying to be commander in chief? The 5th interview was with the GM, he asked me about what I would do if a coworker was stealing etc. He offered me a job at 8.25. This was a huge waste of my time.

Interview Question – Trying to sell her a box of tissues.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I had two previous jobs that paid 8.00 and the other 8.50. There's no explaining why I didn't take this position. I'm bilingual and thought this was a joke.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Carmel, IN Aug 2012 – Reviewed Sep 8, 2012

Interview Details – Best Buy typically has a three step interview process. The first interview is online. When you submit your application you will have to take a personality test. If you fail the personality test, you will automatically not be accepted for another interview.
The second interview is with a department manager. Or, if you are applying to a mobile SAS store this will be your final stop with the GM. They will ask you a bunch of questions on sales techniques and more about your personality.
Interview three is only for Big Box stores. The third interview is with the GM. This will be the interview determining whether or not you will be hired.

After you receive the OK from the GM, you will be submitted to a background check and a drug test. If you fail either one, you will not be hired. So stay clean, kids.

Interview Question – How would you close a sale?
Describe a time where you led a group of people to success.
Describe a time where you were a leader.
  Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Ask for the wage you're worth. Big Box stores will typically pay you less.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Spring, TX Sep 2011 – Reviewed Sep 14, 2011

Interview Details – Alright well to begin, i have not yet finished the interviewing process however, i will tell you how it went. I showed up around 15-20 minutes early dressed professionally( MEANING NO JEANS GUYS...) and checked in to let them know i was here. within 4-5 minutes of walking around a man from geek squad had me follow him to an office at which he interviewed me. the interview lasted maybe 20 minutes and i was told that i would be instantly passing on to the 2nd of 3 interviews done. NONE of which would be a GROUP interview. anyways...to sum this up you want to arrive early, dressed professionally, and try to be as calm as possible, and just breath. you want to appear calm and confident(meaning show no signs of nerves such as fidgeting or lack of eye contact) sit strait in your chair and keep a calm look on your face. also, it helps to throw some humor in there to lighten the mood too ;)

I will keep you posted as each interview goes by.

Update 09/17/2011:

Took me some time before i could get this posted but after my first interview i was immediatly informed that i would be moved strait to the next interview and that i would be contacted within the next week. 2 hours later they called me to set up an interview which suprised me. i am very happy so far with the way this process is being handled.

update:

at the third interview i was informed that once you got to a third interview your already a part of the team(considering you pass the drug and background stuff. the general manage was extremely nice and called me a perfect candidate because of my skill set and other details. overall i am very excited to begin working here and was happy with how hard the interview process seemed to be as it weeds out the bad employees quickly.

Interview Details – First you must apply online by completing a rather lengthy application and hope that it was worth your time. Soon after you may receive a phone call regarding your application and whether you are interested in scheduling an interview.

There are usually two interviews (in my experience). Remember to dress like you want the job, and that means business casual, not just casual. The first interview is with the manager of the department you will be working for (in this case the mobile manager). Be prepared to answer some basic questions such as "what makes you the right candidate for this job?" If the department manager thinks you're the right candidate for the job you will be scheduled for a second interview with the store manager. It has been said that not every employee is asked to do two interviews so don't be surprised if this happens to you as it may simply mean that you're obviously good enough or the store needs to hire someone quickly.

The second interview with the store manager is usually a repeat of the same questions asked in the first interview, but with a few new questions sprinkled in there. If my experience is anything to go by just be prepared to prove you can sell, or your really willing to try, because it's all business at Best Buy. This is also the perfect time for you to ask some questions especially if you want to know where you'll stand if something falls out of place down the line during your employment. If the store manager feels confident you're the right candidate for the job you will either be offered a job on the spot or told that you will receive a phone call at a later stage. If you're offered a job you will be required to negotiate your pay, and the job offer will be contingent on a background check and passing a urine test to discount the possibility of criminal offences or drug use respectively - the latter MUST be completed within a few days after you have been hired or your job offer may no longer be available.

You should receive a phone call a few days after completing the drug test to inform you of the results (which I'm sure you'll already know) and you will given the opportunity to schedule a day to attend an orientation meeting, which usually involves at least one other new employee. The meeting will last a few hours and involves watching videos about store policies, learning about the store discount and its rules, navigating the store, and deciding your first week hours. Remember to bring photo identification, which you may or may not be informed about prior to the meeting.

Interview Question – One tricky question you may be asked: How do you know when a person is really interested in a product?   View Answer

Negotiation Details – The negotiation phase was fairly simple, although my advice is not to be afraid to ask for what you believe you deserve as you may find that another employee with the exact same experience and responsibilities is earning more, and sometimes much more.
