Interviewed Jan 2012 (took a day)
I felt that the interview process was very professional. The staff was very friendly, positive, and understanding the need of flexibility for college students. During my interview I was told I have excellent speech skills and I am very knowledgeable already in the field I am applying for. They did both my interviews in one day and got my schedule and drug testing papers ready.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in San Antonio, TX (took 3 days)
I Received a call about a week after submitting my application online, they asked me if i was still interested because there was 3 positions available; MP3, Cameras and Computers and I suggested either would be fine with me so they scheduled me the next day for a 1:1 interview, I was pretty excited when i walked in NOTE: (I hadn't worked for the past year or so before the interview) so I was a little bit nervous at the same time, but I had prepared to answer any random question asked, I just looked up the most common questions asked at a best buy interview and was surprised that the guy interviewing me had only asked 3 questions but I made sure i answered confidently and made eye contact and also asked questions myself so, the interview wouldn't be so awkwardly silent after each time he asked me a question, I found it to be more helpful because it makes you seem like you really want to work there! The 1:1 interview lasted 10 minutes tops! if it wasn't for me asking any questions it probably would have lasted less, I of course asked more or less when I should receive a phone call about the next steps and he responded "3 to 5 days, to schedule the 3rd interview with the GM". I felt pretty confident after the interview, but wondered why it was to short and if he just ended it quick because he was not interested, the following day I got a call that the GM wanted to interview me at noon the next day.
I showed up 20 minutes earlier than scheduled and started the interview 10 minutes earlier, I wasn't feeling to well that day but I sucked it up and made sure to smile, keep alert and strike conversation as soon as he introduced himself, I right away asked how his day was going so far and so on. There was not one dull moment during the interview, I had never worked in retail but as long as you got the CONFIDENCE and TRUSTWORTHY ATTITUDE you got it in the bag! Always try to answer a question with a question at the end of your answer it keeps the GM on their toes and make them wanting to hire you on the spot! I did not lie at all during my interview, I answered truthfully even if it would have made a negative impact to get an offer for the job WHICH IT DID NOT. After 45 minutes he offered me a Job in the computer department even after i had told him that I did not know much about them as the GEEK SQUAD may know but If I want to sell sometime I will have to jump in and learn about the product before hand and do some comparisons if i wanted to do great at sales. He let me know he was well aware of that, and he felt very confident in putting me in that area. PLEASE NOTE.... [If you really want to work at Best Buy and hardly know about electronics except the common basics, let them know before hand, but that you are willing to do a little research or testing the products yourself to help with your sales. And also let them know you are willing to jump into other areas to help if business picks up in your co-workers departments]

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Manassas, VA (took 2 weeks)
Best Buy uses a 3-interview process. Generally, you interview with someone over the phone first. You interview with the department supervisor for what you are applying for. This is the most complete interview. Finally, you interview with the General Manager, who goes over employee theft and general store processes. This is where you are offered the position.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Olathe, KS (took 6 weeks)
I applied online for Best Buy Mobile sales and was contacted about a week later to some in for an interview. When I arrived, the Mobile manager was extremely professional and asked several situational questions. I was told I would get a call back if i was selected. a week and a half later, I was called to set up an interview with the store manager a few days later. This interview was more about getting to know the candidate. She told me that i should definitely expect to receive an offer, but she didn't know for sure what department she wanted me in. She wanted to talk to some of the other managers and get back to me.
Two weeks later I received a call to come in and sign a job offer, take a drug test, and background check. The manager came out and literally said, "Here, read these, go here for the test, this is what you'll be making, now sign here and we'll call you." The offer was for computer sales, which wasn't exactly what I had applied for, but sounded ok. $9.75 per hour. I'm sure I got some kind of experience credit. I think they start around $7.50-8 per hour usually for the high school kids.
A week later I called to check on the status and they said someone would call to set up orientation soon and that I had passed everything. Another week and a half passed and I finally got a call late in the evening asking if I could come in the next morning for the first day of orientation. I did and it was only 3 hours of videos and paperwork. They said they would call me to set up the 2nd day the next day. A Week later I called them and they rudely told me that the person that did my 1st day would not be doing the 2nd day after all and that they would call me sometime to set it up when they knew when it would be. Another week later I go a call to come in the next afternoon again. This was more videos. 5 days later I had my first day on the floor training.
Over all this was probably the most unorganized hiring process I've ever seen. Several times I was given the excuse that I had fallen through the cracks. That's not very comforting when I need a paycheck and I was hired for a month before I actually started. The e-training is good, but the floor training is kind of corny with their TRUST sales model which pretty much means do it your own way but thank them before and after. Everyone in the store is sarcastic and act like they hate each other, but it's all in good fun, usually...

Interviewed Aug 2009 (took a day)
The interview was a standard Best Buy interview. First I met with a department manager who went through basic questions regarding how I would handle certain situations. Also questions were gear towards team leadership and activities where you faced an adverse situation and how you overcame it. Basically if you are in school and interviewing for Best Buy just have in mind some projects you worked on, goals accomplished and how you dealt with adverse situations.

Interviewed for comp sales, the trick is to emphaize that you need to sell accessories with the computer, since that is where the profits are made, make sure you mention selling the extended warranties. Best Buy is big on theft prevention, so any question about theft should be answered that you would prosecute to the fullest extent of the law

Interviewed Jun 2008 in Albany, NY (took a day)
The interviewing process was very straight forward and simple. I was asked to discuss items on my resume, how I would handle an upset customer, past team experiences, etc. The interview process is very short. I only had a one on one interview and found out my decision within a week.
