Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Birmingham, AL – Reviewed Jan 18, 2013
Interview Details – I was hired in November 2008 at the age of 16. The whole process took about a month which was surprising, because they were getting ready for the holiday. I had two interviews. One with the hiring manager and one with the general manager.
Interview Question – Questions were very standard and expected. Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Cambridge, MA Jul 2012 – Reviewed Jul 4, 2012
Interview Details – I was contact via telephone and had a phone interview which ended up being pretty laid back.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details – Since I had no experience with electronics I wasn't really able to negotiate. The manager ended up giving me $9.50 which is higher than minimum wage in MA so I accepted. I was called into an interview with the store manager, and he waived me through to a final interview with the GM.

Interview Questions

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Waco, TX Jun 2011 – Reviewed Jan 1, 2012
Interview Details – First, i was called by a hiring representative for an brief over the phone interview that basically documented my work history and experience. After that I received a phone call to schedule an interview with the general manager. During the interview I got asked basic questions about my work experience and my handling of customer situations. It was a very short interview that was very easy. The manager complemented me on my professional attire, which I had assumed was something standard. I guess people do not dress professionally to Best Buy interviews. In the end I got the job.
Interview Question – What was the most difficult customer situation you have resolved? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I am bilingual so I automatically got .50 cents above the standard pay. I was able to negotiate .25 cents above that. It was a simple request.

Interview Details –
A week or more after applying online, I recieved a phone call that consisted of a very short phone "interview". The only questions I can remember being asked were "Why do you want to work for Best Buy?" and "What electronics are you interested in? What dept. would you want to work in?" After that, they scheduled me an interview for a later date.
I arrived to the interview. I suggest dressing nicely, but at this store, they'll hire almost anyone. Eventually I was greeted by my first interviewer and sat down in their meeting office in the back of the store. I was asked some scenario questions, asked why I wanted to work there, and my favorite, "How would you describe good customer service?" He was grumpy and told me they'd call me if I qualified for a second interview.
They called me again a day or so later for the last interview (geez). I showed up and had a short interview with the General Manager, who asked me a lot of repeat questions. He then offered me a job.
Interview Question – How would you describe good customer service? View Answer
Negotiation Details – He did ask if the pay was all right. I would say that if you want or think you deserve higher pay, you could probably get it. They were hiring 16 year olds $1.10 over minimum when I left, and all they did was chew gum and stare at a wall. At some stores you are able to negotiate what dept you'll be in. I did neither since I really needed the job.
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Clackamas, OR Dec 2009 – Reviewed Feb 1, 2011
Interview Details – I interviewed with the manager of the department and then the store manager. They asked me about prior experience in retail and liked that I was in college. It's easier to get an interview if you know someone that works there.
Interview Question – What didn't you like about your last job? Answer Question
No Offer – Interviewed in Marquette, MI Sep 2010 – Reviewed Oct 12, 2010

I applied online, as this brand new Best Buy was just being built. I got a call about 2 weeks later asking if I wanted to come in for an interview on whatever day I was available. I went in, greeted the interviewer and introduced myself. She asked me general questions about my availability. The other questions were work related or experience based... I answered them, but NOT to the best of my ability. I was extremely nervous because this was my first interview ever. I knew it didn't go well, so I followed up afterward with a Thank You letter to the interviewer. I also called them back within 4 or 5 days because I didnt get a call when they said I would. I asked if the position was filled and when is the next time I should expect a call from them. They told me I should expect a call by next Sunday... I never got the call.
I have no advice for anyone because I am inexperienced in this area!
Interview Question – When was a time you went the extra mile for someone? Answer Question

Interview Details – 3 intervews with various management spread over a two week period from lowest to highest in store management. Background check but no drug testing required. Orientation included videos, slideshows and paperwork as well as web based training moduals for all aspects of customer service and general employment, safety. If you're hired infor seasonal the orientation and training are minimized. They provide great food/snacks for all meetings.
Interview Question – How would you handle disputes, theft, and difficult customers. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I'd describe it as pointless for anything other than management or geeksquad.

You have to pass the online test to get the first interview with an operations manager. They will decide to hire you or not. The second interview with the GM is a formality where they basically ask you if you plan to steal or have problems reporting people you see stealing. And to settle on your salary.
There is very little training despite all of the online courses. They help but getting grilled by the customers day in and day out keeps you on your toes.
Interview Question – What is a situation where you had to deal with a difficult customer and how did you handle it? View Answer
Negotiation Details – I highballed it at $15 an hour because it could only go down from there. I got $14 but only because I have a college degree, a child and am older than the usual applicant.
