Interviewed Jan 2010 (took 2 weeks)
What was supposed to be an hour interview turned into almost a 3 hour interview, but good conversation, good questions. They have to go through a lot of interviewees sometimes, and that can take a while trying to coordinate everyone's schedules. Its hard to get a supervisor position if you do not work within the company, which is a great thing for current employees! It's all about performance at Best Buy, so just be able to show how you can increase sales (and have in the past) and you are golden. Its also a lot harder to get a job in another location because often times its your day-to-day activities which become your actual interview. There are not a lot of positions available usually, but Best Buy does a good job of promoting those who deserve it - just be able to articulate that! Show you are a team player who can motivate the team while driving financial results, and have a holiday plan starting in June or July!

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 2 days)
You have to pass the online test to get the first interview with an operations manager. They will decide to hire you or not. The second interview with the GM is a formality where they basically ask you if you plan to steal or have problems reporting people you see stealing. And to settle on your salary.
There is very little training despite all of the online courses. They help but getting grilled by the customers day in and day out keeps you on your toes.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in New York, NY (took 4 days)
First you start of by getting a phone interview, asking you what department you want to work for and 2 other ones if you don't get your first. then i met with one of the managers in the store. asked me simple interview questions, then i met with the store GM and then was asked pretty much the most important question "if you see a manger stealing what do you do " the goal is to say you have to say something , you don't tolerate stealing even from high authority. then i was offered the job and when i should come in for orientation .

Interviewed Sep 2011 (took 2 days)
I first received a phone call from one of the local managers who then asked me basic questions, from when I was available to work to if I want full time or part time.I then had my first interview at the store the next day and he asked me questions of why I want to work there, how I would handle a general situation. 2nd interview consisted of store manager who loved my attitude, said I had great potential and wanted me to do my third interview that same night. Now usually by the 3rd and final interview, the job can be secure. I had the final interview now with the same store manager and one person that was above him. They asked me about references and said they would call me, but never did.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Boston, MA (took 1 week)
Filled out application online. Got a call from a recruiter the next day and went through a phone interview. The phone interview wasnt hard, it was just basically talk about your past experience and describe yourself. After that she set me up with an interview with the mobile sales manager. That was about a week later. Could of been sooner but i wasnt available. But the interview with the manager was ok. The manager starts off by asking you to talk about yourself then he talks about his experience and Best Buy. That part of the interview was cool. You get to open up and show your personality. Then from there he takes out a packet and starts asking question from it and writes down your response. Depending on your experience, someone might think its hard but the questions are really those generic interview questions. "tell me about a time when you had to help someone; tell me about a time when you had to show leadership; what are the steps of selling" etc... After that I was offered the job but was told i had to meet with the Best Buy GM first. So that was about a week later. Heres where the bad part starts. I was 5 min late because i took public transportation. When I got to the store i went to the kisok just like the last interview. Had to wait another 5 min to ask for the gm because it was busy. One of the reps told me to go to the front to the security part and ask for the guard to page the GM. So i did that and waited and another "manager" came out and asked why I was late. Told her the situation and rudely she says "yea were going to have to reschedule". Right there i knew i wasnt going to be hired. So I explained the situation again and she said she would go to the back and talk to the GM. 5 min later she comes back out and says "yeah im sorry but he says he has another interview coming in and we have to reschedule and that I shouldve had security page him earlier". I said no one ever told me to go to security to have him "paged". I said this is unprofessional and I walked out. Needless to say i didnt get a call for rescheduling. Im sure someone else might have better luck in the hiring process lol. But basically if you get called in to meet the GM, your already hired. Just dont be late lol.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Waco, TX (took 2 weeks)
First, i was called by a hiring representative for an brief over the phone interview that basically documented my work history and experience. After that I received a phone call to schedule an interview with the general manager. During the interview I got asked basic questions about my work experience and my handling of customer situations. It was a very short interview that was very easy. The manager complemented me on my professional attire, which I had assumed was something standard. I guess people do not dress professionally to Best Buy interviews. In the end I got the job.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 2 weeks)
I applied online for a cashiering position on a Thursday night. Friday evening I was contacted by Person #1. I was given a small over the phone interview briefly asking about my background, experience, and offered a different position based upon my previous experience. I was then asked if I could come in for a 1:1 interview with Person #2.
My interview was for the upcoming monday at 4:00pm. I arrived promptly at 3:45pm and was told to stand by geek squad and wait. Apparently my interview was scheduled when Person # 2 was in a store meeting with other managers. I waited until 5:10pm before Person #2 came out and finally interviewed me. He apologized for keeping me so long. During the interview I was asked questions that he seemed to be reading from a script at first, but then he got more casual and asked me questions that seemed to be getting a feel for if I was going to be a good fit for interaction with everyone at the company. I was then told that he would pass me along to the next manager and if I was acceptable to him, he would call me in for an additional interview.
Two days later (Wednesday), Person #1 called me again, and asked me if I could come in for my last interview with Person #3 the next day(Thursday) at 4:00pm again for my final interview. I arrived promptly at 3:45 for my final interview and was again told to wait over by the geek squad area. There was already someone there who had his interview with Person #3 at 3:30pm. At 4:15 a 3rd person arrived for his interview at 4:30pm. All three of us stood there and waited until 6:00pm because there was again...another store manager meeting. Meanwhile, the other employees were very friendly and came up and talked to us, and all of which had informed me that this is a "tactic" Best Buy uses because all of them had to wait for at least an hour before they were interviewed. At 6:30, Person #3 finally came and pulled me into the office. I was asked the same exact questions as what Person #2 had asked me. There was no other questions as Person #2 had gone into before to get a feel for my personality. I was then informed that the job I was offered was being modified. That the store was reformatting their entire structure and wanted to know if it was okay that I do my original job AND two nights a week, stay an additional 3-8 hours to help unload trucks and put away inventory. I said I was fine with this.
Person #3 then handed me a folder with all of my new hire stuff, where to go get my drug test done (DO THIS IMMEDIATELY! DO NOT WAIT!) and an agreement for my pay. ($9.00/hr) I was also JUST THEN informed that this was seasonal and not full time. Full time status would be determined at the end of the holiday season. I was told then that my employment was contingent upon passing my drug test and background check(standard).
The next Tuesday, I was called by Person #1 again and told my drug test and background check passed and that my orientation would be Saturday morning starting at 7:00am and would end around 2:00pm. (The 7:00am to 10:00am was actually a store meeting to discuss the upcoming holidays).
OH...and just a small note...I have been working there almost 2 months now, and to this day, there has never (at least when Im there) been a manager meeting like the ones that prevented me from getting my interview done. Makes you wonder..?

NO negotiation. You take what they give you for a position like this. Although, initially I was offered $9.00/hr and when I received my first paycheck I actually was making $9.50/hr. Not going to complain...
