Interviewed Feb 2010 in Minneapolis, MN (took 2+ weeks)
Best Buy is a great company with very talented team. There are 2 important components of the interview - first is the technical skills. There were some in-depth questions on NPV analysis etc. But most importantly, the second component of the interview tests the interpersonal skills. How well is the candidate being able to defend his or her position. The interviewers do apply pressure tactics to check if the candidate breaks down or helds to his or her position. Given the size of the organization and the growth, BB values the second component even more than the first one

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Roseville, MN (took a day)
Arrived at the store, and everything was very professional. Waited on the side after checking in with the security personnel at the entrance. Then I was taken to the back of the store where the interviews were being held. They were assessing a number of candidates for various locations. The panel interview consisted of the District HR manager and the store manager asking questions in the TMAAT format, as well as "Tell me about yourself." type questions. Other questions pertained to how you would motivate people. They were a nice group and I'll expect to hear from them after a week.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in Bloomington, MN (took 4+ weeks)
Offered not accepted due to income reqmts
they kept me waiting over an hour on two of my interviews - i thought the hr and vp were somewhat unprofessional - they appeared uninterested in what they were doing and removed from any sort of personalities - they treated me like a number - i would have serious concerns if i accepted this position.
my gut reaction was that something else was happening there - an i was right when they had layoffs a few weeks after the job offer-negotiations were not accepted - there was something "odd" about the process-glad i didn't take it-took vp position at another employer with weekends and nites off - much better. ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR INNER VOICE - IF SOMETHING DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT, ITS NOT!

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Richfield, MN (took 2 weeks)
I have completed only a portion of the interview process so far, which was a skills test. The skills test was very difficult; they don't expect anybody to finish with in the allowed time or to do very well. Next step I've been told is an in person interview sometime in the next two weeks. Apparently all positions here are contract work unless your in management.

Interviewed Jul 2008 in Richfield, MN (took 3 weeks)
Very professional. Organized, efficent, punctional. Don't be late. Courteous. Thorough.
They were well prepared. IUt was a 2:1 interview, about 30 minutes long. Met by someone in the reception area, lead to meeting. After meeting, I received a tour of the facility. The interview itself was about 45 minutes. They had a variety of questions of course. All communications were timely.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in Richfield, MN (took 1 week)
The whole process moved very quickly, but in a good way. It seemed that they were interested and quick to act on that. Within days of the screener phone call, a decision was made to do a face to face interview. This was a panel interview with 4 representatives from various parts of the department. This showed they wanted someone who would work well with all aspects of the job as well as with various areas. It also seemed as they were looking for someone who could articulate a very complex subject to various individuals. It showed they really were looking for the right fit and for someone who would truly fit within their team.
The interview was about 45 minutes and started with an in-depth explination of what the job entails, what would be expected as well as the direction of the department. It gave enough information without beng overwhelming as well as giving you a true insight for the position that you were applying for. Sometimes job descriptions can be a bit vague when you apply for them and the interviewers wanted to make sure all applicants understood what the job truly was.
The interviewers were friendly and knowledgable in their areas, and when they didn't know something they were honest and candid about it. No one is going to know everything about the business and to truly be good at what you do, you need to know you strengths AND weaknesses.
The offer was made quickly, professionally, and recruiter really went the extra mile to make sure your questions were answered as well as make you feel good about getting the position. You were working with a person rather than just some nameless entity.
The whole experience really emphasized Best Buy's strength based approach to staffing. Everyone had their speciality and it showed. They also made it clear they wanted someone who looked at this position as more than just a job. They wanted someone who wanted a career.
