Interviewed Jun 2011 in Fresno, CA (took a day)
The process was very slow. Receiving the job offer was the same day I interviewed, but between that day and my start date took nearly a month. They interview you right on the spot when you walk in. And if the district manager is there he may offer the job to you right on the spot if he likes you. That's what happened for me.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
I didn't even think of negotiating. However I should have. I had further education than the store manager himself.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Skills Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Mar 2012 in Los Angeles, CA (took 4+ weeks)
No problems with initial Interview process. Told I was being referred to district manager for 2nd interview. called several times to find out when 2nd interview will occur with no results. Spoke directly with district manager after several phone calls and was told I would receive a call back and have not received call back. Still waiting for a 2nd interview after nearly 2 months ! Extremely disappointed about being strung along !

Interviewed Feb 2011 (took 2 days)
I met some of the HR people from Big 5 Sporting Goods at a job fair. I spoke to two of them and was given a job application form. I filled it out and was asked to attend an interview the next day. I was offered a position at the end of the interview.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
They will basically ask why you are qualified to work at Big 5 as well as some of your hobbies, etc. They will have you answer this question and maybe one other question on a piece of paper (they're testing you for literacy and spelling). In the interview, be talkative and show personality since it is a job that you will be interfacing with the general public everyday. Also, there was a basic math skills test with word problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication and one long division).
Other Details
The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, an IQ/Intelligence Test and a Background Check.
