Interviewed Apr 2012 in Irvine, CA (took 2 days)
I was contacted by BioPhase recruiter and forwarded onto BioRad for a phone interview scheduled for thirty minutes. The interviewer called 18 minutes late asked three questions (exactly) and rushed through my questions with no new information. She did not give any insight on the job description even after I told her I wasn't given one by my recruiter nor could I find one on the BioRad website. I asked when I may hear of the next step and was told "I have your resume and a few more interviews, maybe next week." I asked if she had any more questions and the response was a quick "no". I also attempted to inquire more about the position and hiring process but was only given the same information of "I have your resume and a few more interviews" I then asked if she had my contact information if she had any more questions or needed any thing further from me, again she said "yes I have your resume" at which time she promptly and abruptly said "goodbye" and hung up.
The only information I received from her was that this position is a three month contract, temp position.
I felt she had better things to do than interview for a temp position and really didn't want to be bothered with my questions.
In person interview included Manager, Lead and a would be co-worker over the duration of one and half hours in the Irvine location. I was directed to one location only to be told that I had the wrong building and the wrong contact person. I arrived 15minutes early to the correct location and was met by a would be coworker who was unaware of the interview scheduled but she made it a point to ask questions and give information for the full time allotted.
I was given a job and duty description by each interviewer and later received it in writing with compensation listed.
The interview room was small conference room. When the AC turns on the fans are loud and stay on for about 10minutes.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Hercules, CA (took 3 weeks)
I was initially contacted by the Bio-Rad technical recruiter and briefly discussed the position and my goals. I later found out this recruiter was not an employee but a contractor. About a week later I was asked to do a phone interview with IBM, consisting of technical questions, it lasted about 30 minutes. The HR contractor asked me to call her with after the interview as she wanted to know how it went, but after I asked her for her contact number (she would be working from home that day), she indicated she would send that information to me, she never did. This HR contractor wasn't very organized, didn't do what she said she was going to do half the time, and was not very prompt. After the IBM interview the HR contractor indicated that they wanted to bring me into their facility for a face to face interview. It took them about a week to get the schedule finalized, and then I just received the flight ininiary just 1 day before leaving. They had me flying out of Indianapolis which is 3 hours from my home, so I called their travel department and they changed the departure city but that they would then have to get the new price approved. It got approved, however, there seems to be a disorganized theme with this company. That was my impression even before I had left for the interview.
The interview itinerary was to consist of 15 minutes with the HR contractor, followed by 1 hour with a manager and Basis person, followed by 1 hour with a Business person, followed by 1 hour with another manager, followed by 30 minutes with an GRC person. The 15 minutes with the HR contractor consisted of her asking if what we had discussed over the phone was still ok, everything was except that she had asked if I had any other opportunities pending, I indicated that I had another interview next week. The strange thing is that she started comparing Bio-Rad with the company that I would be interviewing with next week, and basically downgraded the other company. I found this to be childish and unprofessional. She then went into a rant about how Bio-Rad wanted and expected an interviewee to be excited and enthusiastic about working for Bio-Rad, and that Bio-Rad would not be waiting more than 3 days for a response if an offer was made. Then she went into telling me about the interviewers personalities, basically that the 1st 2 interviewers are nice, etc, then told me about the 2nd interviewer, that he has an anxious/exited (I can't remember the exact words) personality but was ok, then went on explaining about the rest of the interviewers. I found that to be strange as I've never had anyone do that before, just seemed weird. The 1st hour went by and the 2 interviewers were ok, nothing unusual, 1 manager and a Basis person, I"m not sure if the Basis guy was employee or contract but he did not say much. The 2nd hour was the 'anxious' guy, for some reason all he was concerned about was ragging on my resume, about dates and how long I was there, etc. This guy I found out later had been a director at a previous employer. He was basically wanting not to find out about my skill set, but more interested in ripping my resume apart. I haven't ever seen anyone act so rude in an interview as he did, basically shrugging his shoulders when I was answering his questions. I'm not sure but I think the HR contractor told this interviewer that I had another interview the following week, which of course he reacted to. Anyway, needless to say we finished that session 10 minutes early. After the anxious guy left, the HR contractor asked me how the 1st 2 interviews went, I told her the 1st one was ok, but the 2nd one the guy seemed to be nitpicking my resume, etc. Then I went to take a 10 minute break before the 3rd interview, well when I got back the HR contractor told me that they did not want to continue with the rest of the interview (WOW). In all of my 16 years experience being interviewed for SAP positions, I have never encountered anything like this. I find that to be disrespectful, etc. They said they did not want to waste any more time, however if they had conducted a phone interview with those same interviewers maybe they could have came to that conclusion via the phone instead of actually flying people in just to cut the interview short. I asked the HR contractor to please send me her managers email, which of course she never did, nonetheless I sent an email to a HR rep from Bio-Rad in another department and asked if they could forward my email to the correct person, this person said that they would. So I have never heard another word from Bio-Rad after that.
My takeaway? Don't tell them you have another interview as they will take it personally, and show excitement/enthusiasm as Bio-Rad is the only thing that matters to you, that you really, really, really want to work there and that it is a great company.

Very smooth, professional, thorough and enjoyable. However the manager who was in charge of the interview scheduling is no longer with Bio-Rad. At least 5 interviews including an HR phone screening. Prefer people with both sales and lab experience. Hard to get in with no sales experience.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Hercules, CA (took 1 week)
I was told I would be interviewing for a position that required contract drafting, negotiation and 40 percent would be more clerical or "mundane" work. I was interviewed on the phone and given a test that required me to rewrite a vendor contract, which I did and I put a password protect on the document so no accidental changes would be made. I was asked to redo the task but not put a password protect this time... ...I did so. In the interviews, I asked several interviewers which of my skills they felt I had that would be most useful in the job. I was told by one senior person that my International experience was something that stood out for him in this respect. I was later asked by the last interviewer which of my skills were most useful and replied with the skills that other interviewers had expressed to be most useful and was told there would be no negotiation, no contract drafting and virtually no international work done at all. I later noticed that the person hired was a person with this experience and much younger than myself. You may draw your own conclusions.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Hercules, CA (took 5 days)
I got an interview through a friend who works there. I just sent them my resume and got an interview a couple days later. I had one-on-one interviews with two of the supervisors, then with the team of people who would have been my co-workers. I was asked for more details about some of the things on my resume and about whether or not I could handle the challenges of the job (multitasking, working under pressure, using their equipment). Then I took a quiz on lab techniques like serial dilution, moles etc. It was very low-key and casual, the team seemed laid-back. They asked a lot of specific questions about the equipment I used in previous jobs which threw me off guard since it wasn't that related to the job, but later I found out it was just out of curiosity because their company makes a lot of equipment for research. About a week later I got an email saying I didn't get the job.

Interviewed Feb 2010 (took 4+ weeks)
I submitted my resume through Bio-Rad's online system. After 1-2 weeks, I was contacted by a recruiter at Bio-Rad, with whom I had a phone interview (fairly standard HR screening type questions). Within a couple days, I was contacted by the hiring manager, with whom I also had a phone interview (more extensive). We scheduled an on-site visit 1-2 weeks after, during which I spoke with the recruiter, hiring manager, and one other manager. After a couple weeks, I was notified that they had decided to look at other candidates. I thought I had a great rapport with both managers - the interviews felt more like chats and less like I was being interrogated. The office culture seemed fairly laid back.
