I applied through college or university and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at BlackRock in December 2009.
Interview Details – OCR through UPenn. Second interview at Blackrock. 1 on 1 the first time around, and then a panel with 3 people the second time. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Basic skills / making sure you're up to speed questions, although my friend who just applied for the heck of it also got to 2nd round and I know she know's little to nothing about investing. Getting the interview is probably the hardest part; as long as you have a semi-high to high GPA at a 'target school' you should be fine.
Interview Question – Most questions were related to my previous work experiences. A few questions to make sure that I was up to speed on what I would be working on. No brain teasers that I can remember. Answer Question
Reason for Declining – I ended up working at a startup company.
I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at BlackRock in August 2013.
Interview Details – I was contacted pretty quickly after I applied to do a phone interview with the recruiter. I was then brought in for an interview with the hiring manager which went well. She brought me in the next week to meet with the HR team I would be working with (a total of 4 interviewees). They seemed to like me and said they would let me know the next steps by the end of the following week. Two weeks passed and I never heard back from the recruiter. I followed up with an email and she said she was very interested and they would decide the following week. A week past and no contact. I emailed again and she said the position was on hold but they would know by the end of the month; that was two months ago.
Interview Question – How would you handle a difficult manager? Answer Question
I applied through college or university and the process took 5 weeks - interviewed at BlackRock in October 2013.
Interview Details – I took the interview through its on-campus recruiting process. The first round was on campus and the superday was on site. Most of the questions were closely related to my experience on resume. No tricky questions at all. All the interviewers were working in this group instead of HR.
Interview Question – A brain teaser in the superday. Answer Question
I applied through college or university and the process took a day - interviewed at BlackRock.
Interview Details – Typical On-Campus Interview, mostly went through my resume and asked about my experience. There were no technical or hard questions. It lasted about thirty minutes.
There were two interviewers and they were nice and friendly. Be sure to be able to go in details about your experience or internship as they may ask follow-up questions on it.
Interview Question – Nothing difficult or unexpected Answer Question
I applied through an employee referral and the process took 7+ weeks - interviewed at BlackRock.
Interview Details – Took forever to receive a call back for an interview. The actual interview was straight forward. BlackRock does not provide enough details regarding the presentation.
Interview Question – Financial modeling Answer Question
Reason for Declining – Salary was higher than comparable positions, but a higher base is easily attainable.
Interviewed at BlackRock
Interview Details – Very standard interview process. 1:1 first interview, superday with 4 interviews with one MD and 3 analysts, also one group presentation. Everyone was super nice and also no technical questions, only behavioral and of course questions about current events.
Interview Question – Very behavioral, barely anything technical Answer Question
I applied through college or university - interviewed at BlackRock in January 2013.

I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at BlackRock in March 2012.
Interview Details – One has to make an application on the BlackRock website and wait for a call up. In my case the recruiters came to my college, after having done a presentation. I got the interview, which lasted 20 minutes. the interviewer asked fit interviews: what classes are you taking? how did you get into this college? what interests you about the company?
Interview Question – None. It was like talking to an older buddy over a coffee/tea Answer Question
Interviewed at BlackRock
Interview Details – I had the on campus interview with them. The interviewee asked me a lot of technical questions about the fixed income market, pricing of bond especially. Other questions were just common--why you apply for this position, why you want to work for Blackrock etc
Interview Question – bond duration and interest rate change Answer Question
