Interviewed Dec 2011 in Boston, MA (took 7 weeks)
Initial phone interview - 30 minutes. Met separately with two managers who were hiring for two different roles within human resources. Each interview was 45 minutes.
Received follow-up call to debrief on interview experience. Told that if BCBSMA were interested - they would contact me for another round of interviews.Received email same day for next round. "Second Round" consisted of 6 interviews in one day - each 45minutes long.
Requested references at end of process.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Quincy, MA (took 3 months)
Waste of time, very poor communication from HR.
I had three phone interviews and two rounds of on-site interviews with the recruiter (s), hiring manger and two other senior roles. It was a MONTH between my phone interview/screen with HR before I was contacted about a second phone interview. Then another month before a round of in-person interviews. Then another 2 weeks, and another round of in-person interviews. I was asked to submit references and background check materials the next day, and never heard back. A MONTH later, I was notified that they had selected an internal candidate.
Turns out to be their loss since the position I found in the interim was a much, much better fit with better pay. However, I'd caution anyone applying with this org. that the process moves VERY slowly.
I would also place the blame on HR, and not the hiring manager. I would assume this was a case of poor communication between the HR department and the candidate. The overall interview process was very straightforward.

Interviewed Feb 2009 (took a day)
The interviewer was very skilled, but was not the hiring manager. The hiring manager was out of town and would not be available for at least several weeks. That was disappointing to hear because I wa initially told that they were going to bring someone on board very quickly. It seemed the interviewer was just trying to get a feel for the kinds of people that were out there looking for work.
