Interviewed Apr 2011 in Seattle, WA (took 2 days)
I was contacted the same day the position closed and set up an interview for the following week. I was given the option of a telephone interview or an in person interview; I selected the in-person option. I was contacted at work at my current employer and the manager was understanding that it may be a sensitive topic to discuss while at work and provided a number for me to contact him after work.
I was aware that Boeing has a specific interview style but was unaware of the style so I researched the style (STAR behavorial interview) and found potential questions which may be asked which I prepared in advance potential answers and was allowed the opportunity to use my notes during the interview, if needed. I brought work samples as well.
I was interviewed by the hiring manager and the lead for the position. I was asked the following types of questions:
1) Tell me what Diversity means to you
2) Describe your experience/education relevant to this position
3) Describe a situation in which you incorporated other parties (more than 1)
in a decision making process.
4) Name a time when you worked on a major project and had to over come
obstacles. How did you do it?
There was another question asked but I don't recall the specifics. Below are questions
I answered but was not directly asked, although I felt it prudent to share:
1) What would your manager say about you?
2) What are your strengths/weaknesses?
3) Describe a situation in which you showed initiative and took the lead?
4) Adaptability/Flexibility issues
5) Working with co-workers and overcoming challenges, how did I go about it?
Discussed my knowledge and experience with blueprint reading/interpretation, Bill
of Material Structure and application information, retrofits and change management.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
I was contacted for a level 2 position but the HR group felt I should be considered for Level 1
because I lacked direct experience. The manager let me know this in advance. I was
disheartened by this and stated that my extensive experience alone should qualify me for
level 2 at minimum but let's go through the interview and see how it goes.
At the beginning of the interview, I was informed that HR maintained the Level 1 but
that we should continue with the interview and take it from there. At the end of the interview,
I was told that I was definitely level 2 material (not level 3 because no previous Boeing
experience). I offered some of my sample work to the manager to retain which he did.
Two days later I received a voicemail (from manager) stating the interview was successful
and I would be receiving a forthcoming offer. He was not aware of the salary which would
be forthcoming.
Other Details
I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a Group/Panel Interview.
