Interviewed Aug 2011 (took 3 days)
After I applied online, I got a call back from them 2 days later for my first interview with an assistant manager and two specialists. During that interview they invited me back for a second interview the next day with two other assistant managers and one other specialist. After that interview they invited me back for a third interview with the general manager the next day and I was hired!!! :-) The interview was very easy.

Interviewed Feb 2012 (took 4 days)
The online application process was a little bit strange. In addition to filling out the actual application, I had to fill out a questionnaire which seemed like it was a mix between an ethics test ("What would you do if you saw a fellow associate stealing...", "What would you do if a customer wanted....", etc.) and an IQ test (a smattering of logic, reading comprehension, and even a basic math question or two). I heard back from the company extremely fast -- within two days -- and was granted an interview later in the same week. The interview was rather quick and very low key. It is very clear that the biggest thing that they're looking for is hiring people who can sell BAM's discount cards and magazine subscriptions, so I suggest you familiarize yourself with these two programs before the interview, and maybe even expect to give an impromptu pitch to the interviewer as if he or she were a customer.

Interviewed Feb 2011 (took 2 weeks)
I was called after filling out an application online, I had an interview with one manager and the next day I was called back to interview with another manager. The managers seemed nice and friendly enough. Both interviews took place in the cafe, where we sat down amongst some customers, so it was a little awkward. During one interview I was interrupted by the manager having a long conversation with a customer in the cafe. During the interviews, the things that were stressed the most were the Magazines for Millionaires discount cards and magazine program. I was basically told that if I wasn't sure I could sell them I should look elsewhere. I was also asked "What was the last book you read and how did you like it?" "Why do you want to work here?" and things like that.
I was then called back a couple days later to be told they were doing my background check. I called back a couple days later to ask if it came back. Not yet. Then I finally got another call saying it went through, and I was to come in to fill out paper work and bring my ID and social security card. I went in to the store, was taken into the messy back room and had to fill out stacks of paperwork. There were many papers I wanted to keep for reference because they detailed expectations and important information to know when working there, but was told I could not keep the papers.

Interviewed Jul 2010 (took 4 weeks)
Manager and co-manager were present. I was asked questions about myself and my working preferences. Asked hours I could work. Told some of what the job consisted of. Was asked when I could start working and told when I could come in to start my job. I was a little surprised when I talked to the manager because she was very unprofessional. Office was very cluttered, as was back room.
