Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Atlanta, GA – Reviewed Feb 26, 2013

Interview Details – Hiring and Interview process varies from location and from manager. Main purpose of interview is to find out if you are a "good fit" for the company. In my opinion, year of experience and performance is not taken into account.

Negotiation Details – Negotiation was limited. HR or recruited told me that i will be promoted in a year to the next level given my experience. This never happened.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in McLean, VA May 2010 – Reviewed Feb 22, 2013

Interview Details – Use your networks to find someone inside the company to champion your resume for a position that you can find on the web. After that, keep the communication going with the recruiter. They get pretty busy and sometimes lose touch.

Interview Question – For software and database developers, you may be asked to answer a specific coding question. I had to write a SQL statement that did an outer join with a simple filter.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – They had a lot of applicants, so I wasn't able to negotiate much.

Business Analyst at Booz Allen Hamilton

No Offer – Interviewed in Alexandria, VA Mar 2012 – Reviewed Feb 21, 2013

Interview Details – The recruiter asked some very basic questions regarding my resume during the first interview. Next was an online, timed writing assessment. I was given three options and one hour to submit the assignment. Finally, there was an in-person interview at their headquarters. I spoke to three team member in a round robin style interview. One team member asked about my leadership experience, the second asked about my competency, and the third gauged my fit at Booz Allen Hamilton.

Interview Question – Name a time when you led a team.   Answer Question

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in McLean, VA – Reviewed Feb 21, 2013

Interview Details – I went to one of their recruitment events for college students. They split the pool of students into groups and gave them a chance to talk to current employees who have started working there in the past year (or two). The actual interview process was round robin style and was described as mainly being a behavioral interview. I was interviewed by two people the first round and then by one person the second round. In the second round, I was asked some technical questions that were not too bad, but was unexpected. A week later, I received a phone call saying that one of my interviewers is interested in offering me a job and that I would be receiving an offer letter in a week. The email for the offer letter was not sent to me in a week, so I emailed them back about and they sent it to me in a couple of days.

Interview Question – I was asked some basic questions about computer networking. For me at that point, it was about memorization and regurgitation.   Answer Question

Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Fort Riley, KS – Reviewed Feb 14, 2013

Interview Details – The interview process is strange, but thorough. I met with all of the people who would later be in my supervisory chain. The process went fairly quickly (about three and a half weeks), although I suspect they were desperate to hire me because (as I found out later) the last two or three people they'd made offers to had pulled out and they couldn't provide the services they were contracted for.

I don't have a lot more to offer on it, but I will say that they will throw in very bizarre questions or comments in the interviews to see how you react. Occasionally this will involve them throwing in an outright lie to gauge your response. I didn't care for that and found it unprofessional and pointless. I can say this about my interview...they didn't hide what my supervisor was going to be like before I took the job.

Their salary negotiation wasn't bad. They get you to set a ceiling on what you'll accept (aim high, but not much above market because they're cost-conscious these days and will disqualify people immediately for that). They'll also try and get you to negotiate against yourself on salary. Once you state what you want to make, don't bid against yourself...wait for them to make a counter. Took me a couple of days to get mine (they came in a few thousand under)...I gave them a counter of $1000 less than what I initially asked for and they made me wait a week before agreeing to it.

I would say the process was odd, but not particularly daunting. And they handled it fairly quickly, which I respected.

Interview Question – They presented it to me them finding some "troubling" information in my background check, with no clarification, and asked me to expand on it and explain. I told them that to my knowledge there was no problem with my background and that if they wanted an explanation they should tell me what they're talking about. They never brought it up again...I suspect it was just a question designed to rattle my cage to see what happened.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I listed what I wanted, they tried to get me to bid against myself, they presented a low counter, I came back with a thousand less than my initial request, they let me wait a week, then sent an offer. Overall, not too bad...I got what I needed from it and the salary negotiation was professional.

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Feb 19, 2013

Interview Details – The interview process was really well structured. I had a phone screening with a recruiter and she was very nice. The phone screen was more conversational just so she could get a feel for the type of personality I had and why I would be a good fit. At the end of the conversation she said she wants to fly me out for an Interview in McLean. The on-sight interview was also very well structured. I interviewed with 4 employees at the firm and they wanted to see my Consulting Skills, Leadership Skills, and Technical Skills.

Interview Question – They want to see your process of thinking. Describe a time where you had to work with a team to overcome diversity?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I did not negotiate since I was an undergraduate

Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Washington, DC Nov 2012 – Reviewed Feb 11, 2013

Interview Details – I had two brief phone interviews, then a virtual interview since I wasn't in the Washington, D.C. area. The virtual interview consisted of three brief interviews. There was no case interview. Each interviewer was pleasant. One was meant to test leadership skills, one consulting skills, and one personality. I was surprised to receive an offer because I felt that the interview was not very informative.

Interview Question – What do you think is the biggest issue our company is facing right now? What would you bring to a team?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – The HR woman was a helpful contact. She answered my questions but was unwilling to negotiate regarding my salary.

Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in McLean, VA – Reviewed Feb 11, 2013

Interview Details – I met with a recruiter at a university career fair. One month later I was contacted for a brief phone interview and then invited to the McLean campus for an in-person interview. There were approximately 20 other university recruits at the campus on the day of my interview. We were divided into groups to discuss opportunities with junior employees and otherwise schmoozed about how great BAH is. I had two individual interviews, each lasting about 30 minutes in a large room where five other people were also being individually interviewed. One interview seemed to be an HR team assessing my suitability to the firm and the other was with two members of the team I was being matched with. I received a verbal offer by phone 3 days later and my formal offer a month later.

Interview Question – Questions exclusively revolved around my current work, relevant skills, and interest in BAH.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I asked them to go 18% higher on salary, was immediately offered 10%. Tried to negotiate other benefits but I was told that was not possible.

Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Springfield, VA Jan 2013 – Reviewed Feb 7, 2013

Interview Details – Was approached by a number of recruiters who seemed to be unaware of each other, from different parts of Booz. I picked one, and engaged them. They referred me to a number of project leaders. We had good conversations/phone interviews. I wasn't really asked any technical 'quiz' style questions besides chatting about my old projects and skills. After a week or two, the recruiter said the responses from my 'interviews' were all very positive and they were going to make me an offer. I'm not sure if they were confused and thought I had already come in for an in-person interview or more in-depth technical interview, but whatever. I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Anyway, kind of disorganized, but I wasn't really in a rush or particular, and it turned out well for me.

Interview Question – What are some projects you worked on? What technologies did you use?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – They seemed willing to go higher and 'work with me', as most recruiters will say. But, they convinced me to go with a higher signing bonus and less salary, as a higher salary (90k or above) would make me 'less marketable' in the company. Who knows if it was the truth.
