Interviewed Jun 2011 (took 2 weeks)
I was referred to the Director of Field Service by a BSA employee. I called him and sent a cover letter/resume and we scheduled an interview for a week later. I had the 1:1 interview with the Director of Field Service. He was great and really easy to talk to. He asked why I wanted this position, what did I want to be when I grew up (same as "where do you see yourself 5 years from now, etc), He asked about my background and previous work experience. That 1:1 went very well, and I was invited to meet the Scout Executive and to do a ride along in the district. I met the Scout Exec two days later and we had a chat. He asked more personal questions about my life and family. He asked about my management style, and explained how he ran the organization. He was a very impressive man. 3 days later I did a ride along with the DFS. We toured the district and met some key volunteers, I observed how business was handled, learned a lot, and allowed him to learn a lot about me. On the ride back, I was offered the job and accepted. The culture is very friendly and genuine. This seems like a great group of people.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
The BSA is a non-profit, and therefore the salary for this entry level position is pretty much non-negotiable. You take it or leave it. The good thing is, that for an entry level job, the salary and benefits are fantastic.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Personality Test and a Background Check.
