Entry-level Sales (XBR Position) at Brightedge Technologies

Declined Offer – Reviewed May 29, 2013

Interview Details – I applied online after seeing a post on my school's job board. I received an email within 2 hours asking to set up a phone interview, which I had the next day. The recruiter was very nice & very positive about my application, saying he saw no reason why I shouldn't get the job if I proceed with the process. Had another phone interview that week with a manager, quite similar to the first. Next step was a presentation on a technology of my choice. This took a long time to set up and the manager I presented to online had technical difficulties. I had another quick phone interview answering one thought question later that week with the same manager I'd spoken to before. At this point I had received another offer so they expedited my process, had me speak to the VP later that day who offered to fly me out for final interviews. I flew out the next week, still quite excited about the position. I had to pay for my own cab fare to & from the office but was promised they would reimburse me. I was at the office for 6 hours, with 1 hour of waiting around for the CEO to be available because his schedule had changed. They had me do a phone interview in their office with the VP who was away in NYC. By the end, I was completely exhausted.
My other offer was expiring the next day so they promised to get back to me with a decision by the end of the day. No one contacted me until the next morning, when I got an email requesting a phone call with one of the managers to go over a few points from the previous day's interviews. I did the phone call that morning, and again no one contacted me that day, as my other offer (the whole reason I'd been flown out) expired. I received a call that weekend requesting I meet with another staff member the next morning before I flew back out, but my flight was leaving before the time they wanted to meet. I received an email later in the week saying they were "leaning towards an offer," and at that point I decided not to proceed. They never reimbursed me for the cab fare.

Interview Question – During my final round interviews, I interviewed with the CEO, who had a big emphasis on cold calling, which had not come up in any of my previous interviews.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I realized sales wasn't right for me, and I was upset at the apparent disorganization after my final interviews. I'm sure some of this was due to the fact that my process was expedited so they weren't following their usual procedures, but it was frustrating to be promised a response and not even receive a message saying they needed to discuss my candidacy further during that time frame.

Enterprise Business Representative at Brightedge Technologies

No Offer – Interviewed in San Mateo, CA – Reviewed May 6, 2013

Interview Details – Two phone interviews, then one screen share presentation, one full day of a presentation, skills demonstration, and interviews. The presentation asks yo to choose a bit of technology that will help that company then sell it to them. Everyone was very nice, office culture seemed great. The process of following up after the interviews was not as professional as the entire interview process.

Interview Question – Have you ever failed at something? How did you handle it?
Do you have any cold calling experience?

Sales Associate at Brightedge Technologies

No Offer – Reviewed Apr 25, 2013

Interview Details – Several phone interviews, followed by an on-campus interview, followed by another phone interview. Had to make a presentation selling a technology and deliver it by phone and in person. Was mostly asked questions about why I wanted to go into sales, why I would be good at sales, etc.

Interview Question – Most difficult aspect of the interview process is that it went on way too long. I was told that the final phone interview would be kind of casual, and after being interviewed in person by 3 different people and on the phone by maybe 6 people, I thought the decision was already more or less made. But the last interview turned out to be the most difficult one, I was totally unprepared, and I bombed it. So, for people interviewing, no matter how much positive feedback you get, don't ever let your guard down or think it's ok to relax.   Answer Question

Client Services Manager at Brightedge Technologies

No Offer – Interviewed in San Mateo, CA Feb 2013 – Reviewed Apr 16, 2013

Interview Details – After submitting my resume, I was given a short phone interview with HR. Then, I had a 30 minute phone interview with the managing director talking about the position and a few questions about my resume.

I was emailed for an onsite interview and told there would be case questions.

About a week and a half later, I flew to SF from LA and went to the interview. I was asked to arrive 15 minutes early so the interview could start on-time. I had five 30 minute interviews with people who work in the department and the VP who oversees the department.

Then, the HR manager came in and gave me the process for the next steps.

Interview Question – Most questions were fairly straight forward. Some were hard, but if you prepare, then you should be fine.   Answer Question

Interview Details – (1) Flex your coding skills
The first step in the interview process is a coding assignment, to be completed in a 48-hour period. The assignment typically takes a couple of hours, but given the fact that your schedule is filled with other commitments, we provide a range of time to complete the assignment.

(2) Phone interview
Following the coding assignment, we will schedule a set of phone interviews. For these phone interviews, I highly recommend researching our company to be as prepared as possible. The best way to do this is by checking out our website, www.brightedge.com and our blog. In these phone interviews, there will be both technical and behavioral questions asked, but it is also a time for you to ask any questions that you have about the company and the position.

(3) In-House interview
For the last step in the interview process, you will be invited in-house to BrightEdge's headquarters in San Mateo, CA. It will be a full day session where you will get a chance to meet the team, visit the office, and spend one full working day with the engineering team. The idea behind the day is to experience how working days are spent with BrightEdge (early-stage startup). We want to make sure that you are comfortable with our team, and vice versa.
