Interviewed Sep 2011 (took 2 days)
I had previously worked with the company. I had to complete a skills/behavioral test and then was contacted by DM. This consisted of a 1:1 interview with the basic interview questions: What is your mgmt style like? How do you motivate a team? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? Then that consisted of a RVP interview with a little more in depth questions.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 4+ weeks)
Application processed online through company www site. Received a call from the area District Manager within a week, and was asked to schedule a one hour phone interview with him, which was accomplished within the next week. The interview was pleasant, and questions were presented in a way that indicated the DM was looking for specific qualities in a candidate to match the needs of a particular store, staff and location. At the conclusion, I was asked to interview with the District Manager face to face.
I was well prepared and know my stats off the top of my head (LY vs Goal, ADS, Store Gross, P & L info, etc). My advice is to know yours or have it with you. This company is seriously results driven, expectations are high, and managers are expected to know their job well.
This was scheduled for 10 days later and went well, was relatively informal. very conversational and lasted a little over an hour. The DM was very open to questions and I found that he had an unusually impressive grasp on the strengths and weaknesses of his district, the store location in question, and the entire staff there. It is not unusual to see the DM's in the stores selling. Visits are very frequent and (at least in this district) great fun.
At that point, I was asked to do yet another interview with a different District Manager via telephone. It seemed to be a formality, but was a very interesting interview. That DM focused almost exclusively on my experiences, my adaptability, and very specific questions were asked about talent building, training and sales results. Again, the interview lasted about an hour, was conversational and very pleasant.
An offer was made several days later, and accepted.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Houston, TX (took 3 weeks)
The interview with Brookstone was different for me than a normal sales associate interview because they had told me that they were also considering me for a 2nd assistant manager. The interview took 3 long weeks and I interview with three different managers total. When they did offer me a position, they offered me $8.50 and instead of a seasonal worker, they made me a part-time permanent.

I applied online. About 2 weeks later and received a phone interview and setup a 1:1 interview. During the interview the goal here is to gauge your personality and see if you can talk to a stranger. Also they look for your take on customer service and your experience with it.

Interviewed Aug 2009 (took 3 weeks)
I applied online and was contacted about a week afterwards by the District Manager to set up a face to face interview a few days afterwards (I don't remember how many). After face to face interview I didn't hear anything for a week so I called the DM and left a voicemail. Still didn't hear anything. To make a long story short I had to chase this job down (because I thought I had a great interview) constanly leaving voicemails and I even texted the DM (which is how she finally responded that I was still in the running and she was going to be setting up phone interviews with the RVP).

Be relentless if you get and have a good interview. They seem to want to make sure that you really want to work for the company. Call repeatedly if you have to and if you have the DM's phone number don't be afraid to text.

I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview and a Background Check.

The interview process was great. My interviewer was prepared, but not scripted. Free flowing conversation that I felt very comfortable with. I felt like I could talk plainly, rather than use language that is not normally used in conversation. Very positive experience.
Negotiation Details

Interviewed Feb 2009 (took 2 days)
Interview was rather easy it was standard interview questions from a structure questionaire. If you were a retail manager that did hiring of other managers, chances are you have asked the same structured questions given to you by a HR representative as an interviewing outline.
