Interviewed Dec 2010 in New York, NY (took a day)
Surprisingly I was called 5 minutes after submitting my resume to my great surprise (best HR EVER!). The recruiter was very friendly; was formerly an intern who had moved up the ranks to become an intern recruiter so she was very much sympathetic/empathetic to me (bonus points).

Interviewed Dec 2010 in Washington, DC (took 2 days)
Interns are a different story with CBS, felt like they just hired anyone. Told them about my previous experiences in broadcasting and why I wanted to work for them. The hardest question was "who anchors the cbs evening news?" -- you'd be surprised how many people don't know that answer. The people who run the internship program are a little scattered (they have their own jobs too) and when you have a question it takes them a week or more to answer, just kind of frusterating.

Very simple. Emailed resume and was called right away. Talked on phone, and then went in for 1 on 1 interview where I was told that day I got it. No hard questions were asked, it was mainly about my previous experience and my goals in the future.

Interviewed Mar 2007 in West Sacramento, CA (took 3 weeks)
Located postion on company website. Mailed in my resume and cover letter. After 2 weeks I received a phone call. I had a quick phone interview and was asked to come in for an interview. I interviewed with the Art director. I presented my print and dvd portfolio. After that I was called back about 10 days later. I went in for a second interview where I interviewed with the Creative Services Director and then the General Manager. I received a phone call 2 weeks later and was offered the position.

Interviewed Feb 2008 in San Francisco, CA (took a day)
I called the Executive Producer at CBS. I had an in-person interview where I showed scripts, a resume, and discussed the (writing) position. At the time I interviewed there was a hiring freeze. Not long after the interview I receive an offer. The company is open to new employees and is very friendly. You will discover a close knit group who wants to see each other succeed. I was immediately introduced to the writers, producers, and reporters (my future coworkers). The employees will train you in other fields if you show interest. Advice: be prepared, think outside the box, be creative, and have something unique to offer.

Negotiation Details
Negotiating is hard in the news industry. You need to know what you want, but you cannot assume you'll get everything you ask for. I was able to get a job and knew that if I worked hard I could move up to higher positions. Don't settle if you don't have to, because management will work you as much as they can. You need to be strong, you need to set goals, and if you can get a staffed position, do it.
Other Details
I applied In-Person and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview and a Background Check.

Interviewed Nov 2007 in New York, NY (took 3+ weeks)
Initial meeting consisted of a phone interview where I discussed my previous television and production experience, my goals for the future, and general questions based on my life and why I wanted the position. This was followed up by an in-person one on one meeting with the Broadcast manager where I presented my reel of previous productions. This was an extensive interview where i discussed my skills, spoke of my previous employment as well as what I had to offer CBS News. I was also asked to write a short news story based on a fictional AP-report.

Negotiation Details
The negotiation process was very rigid. There was very little room for negotiation in terms of compensation although I was able to negotiate transportation provided. All meals while on the job were payed for and the best health benefits you could imagine. CBS offers salary increases based on the years you've been with them. Once a promotion comes along, salary negotiations are a little more flexible.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Presentation, a Skills Test and a Background Check.
