Interviewed Oct 2011 in Mettawa, IL (took 1 week)
The hiring process was ridiculously rushed. I was interviewed by phone and after a day I got a call back telling me that if I wanted to be considered for the job, I had to do an onsite interview within 4 days. (I got that call on a Wednesday night). I went to the interview got an offer a day later.
But then, I get told by the recruiter. "Oh, and if you want the job you have to start Monday." This was during a phone call on the Friday night before.
Right there I declined the offer. They have no sense of courtesy towards the people they interview and have no respect for people's time.

Reason for Declining
I was given a few days notice of a MANDATORY starting date. If I couldn't make their starting date, I wouldn't be hired. So I told NO.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Vernon Hills, IL (took 5 weeks)
I had 2 phone interviews and five face to face meetings. Two with the hiring manager and three with members of the hiring manager's team. The people who I met with were professional. The work environment very energetic. The only challenge I had was that there seemed to be some confusion about the type of candidate they were looking for.

All I have to say is, if you have any type of sales experience at all and are NOT right out of college then RUN. Dont walk RUN and or dont even bother to attempt to get a job here. There base is 25k a year and you are required to cold call all day long hoping to land some accounts. The manager that hired me basically did the worst interview I have ever had. Could of chatted with him over the phone rather than waste my time going in to talk with him. This job should of been a slam dunk.......I have over 5 years of sales experience but I felt that during the interview that this manager wanted nothing to do with someone with actual experience!! Got the over qualified look plenty of times. Basically I think CDW likes to hire people to train from the ground up so they arent scared of someone with experience coming in and taking their job. Just my opionion.....
Interview Questions
Really, this was the hardest question during my interview! Kinda comical. The rest was all small talk

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
Applied online, filled out.basic questionnaire, was called the.same day for a phone interview which entailed basic personality questions and then was invited for an in person interview the next week. The questions were pretty simple, read off a list, such as "strengths". "Weaknesses" and "describe a time you went above and beyond." Following the interview, the interviewer and recruited conferred in a took together and 5 minutes later handed me an offer package, which they gave me 24 hours to accept. The whole prs felt bit impersonal and hurried, which made me suspect that they don't really invest in their new hires that much.

Reason for Declining
I chose to decline based on the short time allotted for reviewing the offer packages. I felt that the rush was unnecessary and almost suspicious, like they are used to having people.change their mind.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Chicago, IL (took 2 weeks)
Initially applied online through the CDW website and heard back almost immediately from a recruiter. The recruiter scheduled a time for a phone interview and that went well. I was offered a chance to come in for a one on one at the end of the phone interview. Throughout the whole process the recruiter was very knowledgeable and encouraging. He/She made sure I was comfortable an allowed me to mention any other things that CDW should know about myself before moving into the one on one. On the day of the one on one I came in and met the recruiter on location. Then introduced me to the Sales Manager I would be working for. He/She seemed nice however had an agenda and seemed genuinely disinterested. I've talked to numerous people at the company and they mention how they love to hire college grads with little to no experience (myself). Not the case for the Sales Manager, a bombardment of behavioral questions, which was expected, but absolutely zero chance for me to elaborate on information I may not have mentioned. The interview ended with the manager leaving the room and the recruiter coming back in. I heard back the other day that I did not get the job.
Overall it was an okay experience, I've had tougher interviews, but never interviewed with someone who didn't really give me a chance. Very friendly environment with the exception of the Sales Manager. Also, if you don't get the offer immediately after the 1-1, or a few hours after...you didn't get the job. In the end it worked out, the base pay is pretty awful for Chicago, especially to be making 80 cold calls a day.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Vernon Hills, IL (took 2 days)
Applied on CDW's website, received a phone call the next day from CDW's recruiter. Consisted of a brief phone interview, basically screening me to see if I'd be a good fit for the position. Went into CDW the next day for a face to face interview with the hiring manager and an associate. Was very laid back. Both parties seemed very nice and knew what they were looking for. Received a phone call two hours later extending an offer. Was honestly the quickest interview process I've ever been through. The recruiter even said that this was extremely fast and was very surprised how quickly it went.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Chicago, IL (took 2 weeks)
I was referred by a former colleague of mine who is currently an account manager at CDW. Within a day of his using an internal system to enter my name, I was a emailed a personality test. It contained behavioral questions and other screening assessments. After that, someone from HR called to schedule a phone interview a couple days out. That was fairly relaxed and consisted of questions like: "why technology sales", "why CDW", "why would you be good at this job", etc. You would want to have prepared some examples of sales experiences where you persuaded someone or resolved a conflict or overcame an objection. Within a day or two, I got a call to schedule a 1:1 interview with the manager whose team I'd be working on. That was more of the same behavioral in addition to situational questions. He definitely had a scripted agenda, and there were quite a few situational questions like: "what is your biggest accomplishment", "what is something you've struggled with", "talk about a time when you took initiative", "describe a time you resolved a conflict", "describe a time you went above and beyond for a customer". You also want to have prepared 6-10 questions about the job and the company that show you've done your homework and you know the job you're interviewing for.

Reason for Declining
Good downtown Chicago location. There's something like 1,000+ account managers at the headquarters. Office is pretty standard cube-land set up around the manager and his/her sales team. Seems like wide variety of 20 and 30 something employees. Management seems serious about sales numbers but are probably cool if you're performing. Some cool perks like free laptops or ipads as sales incentives from tech companies. There's probably an opportunity to eventually make substantially more than the $25K (non-neg) base, but the manager said expect to make that much your first year. I declined b/c of the low starting pay, and I didn't really want to work my way up the ladder in a call center environment.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Personality Test and a Drug Test.

Interviewed May 2010 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
I was contacted by an internal recruiter with CDW off monster. I did a phone interview with recruiter they told me about the position asked me a few questions to make sure I was normal and able to hold an intelligent conversation. It was very laid back compared to some of the other phone interviews I've done. Recruiter told me I would be sent an email with face to face interview with a hiring manager to see if they wanted to go ahead in the hiring process. Interviewed with my manager pretty typical interview questions Name a time when you were faced with a problem and how did you handle it? What would your current coworkers say about your work ethic? Do you feel comfortable making cold calls and prospecting? They read off a sheet and the questions tend to be poorly worded so he reworded them at times. I know I did horrible in the questions part but I really shined at the end when she asked if I wanted to add anything.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in Chicago, IL (took 2 days)
The phone interview was comprised of Q & A of my resume basic interview questions. Part of the secret interview was interaction with the receptionist she IM's the Manager and tells him if your friendly enough to talk to the "gate keeper" a person you will be talking to a lot. The 1:1 interview was with a prospective manager grasped my personal and social skills. After about 10 minutes of talking the manager says I'm going to leave the room and call you and your going to try and sell me a cake over the phone, put a picture of the cake on the table and walked away. called the room phone and made me sell him cake. After the cake sale he extended me an offer.
