Interviewed Feb 2010 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 1 week)
The interview consisted of an HR, writing test, panel and 1:1 interviews. The whole process took one week, and I was presented with an offer by the end of the week. The interviewers were looking for fit, and to assess the candidate's abilities and interest in capital markets. I would recommend that you do your homework and know some of the "star" analysts that work at CIBC, to show that you are serious about this position.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 4 months)
I recently interviewed for a T&O position and underwent over 10 seperate interview sessions over a 4 month period. I was interviewed by senior management and executives with positive comments and feedback at the sessions. There was however very poor communication in between interviews spaced apart over the months - and were it not for me following up for weeks after my final interview I would not have found out that someone from within the company had already been slotted into the position. Admittedly I am dissappointed at the process and can recall having felt my time was not being respected (4 months of interviews and only a one line email from the hiring manager wishing me luck in my future searches). I have afterall a current job and had invested and freed up a lot of time for the plethora of discussions and interviews set aside in some cases at the last minute with this firm. And with each passing interview the sense that success was around the corner only grew. My advice to senior mgt would be to keep ethical about your hiring practices. There is afterall a relationship between how you value your prospective employees (esp. the ones that you interview this many times) and how you value your staff, customers and prospects. Respecting people and the time they invest in your firm in turn helps your business.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 3 weeks)
Met with two Associates, 25 minutes each, and was asked a series of both behavioral and technical questions. Fairly standard process, nothing too complicated or overbearing. They were very professional and welcomed questions throughout the interview. They made an effort to make the setting comfortable by offering to use the restroom before the interview and offering a glass of water. It was difficult to get a sense of how they perceived you since they were extremely professional, but the overall experience was good. They were transparent about the timeline on the selection process and informed me about my status after first round.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 1 week)
No technical questions at all, exclusively behavioral and brain-teasers. The 2 guys tried to create a positive interview environment by offering a glass of water and take off the suit. The interviewers seemed friendly, but always seemed "on their own wave". Many tricky behavioral questions about ethics, difficult situations etc.
