they wanted me to show that i could do mathematics and such as well as solve a few problems. the hr person knew nothing about what actuaries do.

Originally contacted by HR department for preliminary phone screen. Schedule phone conference with team leads for later that afternoon. That phone interview lasted 30 minutes. Invited for face-to-face with department head. As soon as I walked in, she took one look at me and said "ok, you're hired. I just wanted to be able to see you and make sure you weren't a weirdo"
