Interviewed May 2009 in Atlanta, GA (took 3 days)
Review lasted three days and involved being interviewed by 5 people, individually and then collectively.
Interviewers were: department head, recruiter, marketing rep, director of contracts, vice president of sales.
The process was fairly painless. I had to prepare a presentation which was shared with the group. I answered some stock questions and talked indepth about how to use new technology to advance the department.

Interviewed Jun 2010 (took 2 months)
I was interviewed by Head of HR, first over the phone later 1-1. She was very pleasant, relaxed and made me feel very comfortable. It was a long interview/conversation - it lasted over an hour! She was eager to have me working at CNN and really tried her best. After that I had an interview with the Exec Producer of the Dept I was referred to. This person was very clear and relaxed, as well. Everything ran smoothly. I was asked to send some ideas, this way they could learn more about my writing and creative side.
Eventually, I did not get the position as it was an extremely competitive one, however, I was told the interview did go very well and that I made a very good impression. Initially, I was told that I was overqualified for the job but I insisted on being interviewed. The tricky thing about these interviews is that they are listening closely to everything you say and observing everything you do so one has to be very cautious and think twice before speaking. Overall, the interview was difficult even if the atmosphere was a positive one and the interviewers did an excellent job.

Interviewed Aug 2009 in Atlanta, GA (took a day)
In-person interview was two hours altogether. The first hour was spent taking a pen-and-paper skills test, covering HTML and CSS (e.g. what's wrong with this stylesheet?), Perl (e.g. write a few lines of code to open a file and read some lines), XML/XSLT (e.g. write some really basic XSL template), JavaScript (e.g. miscellaneous short answers), and very light Java (e.g. what's the difference between String and StringBuffer?). Second hour was two face to face interviews, one with the manager and the second with a senior developer. Pretty generic stuff... what's the most difficult challenge you've ever faced, how do you work in a team environment, etc.

Interviewed Jun 2008 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
Note, my interview was for CNN's executive team - NOT for reporting or producing. I received a phone call after submitting my resume through my school's career office. The phone interview was very informal. I described my experience, my interest in CNN and my ideas about attracting a younger audience. I did not say what I thought CNN wanted; I was very honest - even though it criticized CNN's current operation. The interviewer was very relaxed and equally honest with me about what they needed. After the interview, he called back in three days to let me know I had the internship.

Interviewed Dec 2008 in New York, NY (took 1 week)
I was referred by an employee so I bypassed HR and interviewed directly with the hiring manager. It was VERY competitive but a great interview. I met with hiring manager and Executive Producer. We discussed my background, requirements of the job. Overall, I think they felt I was overqualifed. They ended up hiring within but it was a positive experience.
