Interview Details – During my time there, there weren't strict interview guidelines. The interview process was handled differently by each mgr. The general feeling I got from the various managers was basically to have a conversation with the applicant. While experience is always important, you can teach people how to do many things. What you can not teach are the key things we looked for. The key things we always looked for were self motivation, drive, ambition, willingness to make a decission.
Interview Question – If I were to call all the past people you worked under and the past people that worked under you, what would the the 3 most consistantly negative things they would say about you. Answer Question

Applied online and received an email shortly after. After over a week of repeated attempts to re-contact the recruiter a screen call date was set. On the screen call Cabela's was so unprepared it was rather odd. He didn't have my resume ready, also couldn't find it and had to resend mid call. Wild parts: didn't know my name, and 15 minutes in and I was still yet to be asked a single question. I had to carry the call and try to explain why I applied/good fit. Natural things to talk about but for me to lead it was just weird.
After that I got a call for a call with the hiring manager. The call went OK but I could hear the manager in the background fumbling with things. He sounded really disinterested to start and that was really offputting. Trying to get it back on course I spent about 30 minutes finding out more information about where things were headed. Probably a waste of time for both parties. It wasn't the worst but also not the best.

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Sidney, NE Jul 2008 – Reviewed Aug 7, 2012
Interview Details – It took several months to complete and that was not unexpected. First interviewed for a lower level position on site at the corporate office. It took the better part of the day, including separate interviews with HR, department staff and department managers. I didn't hear anything for about 3 weeks. Then I was called in by the Division manager to interview for the Sign Mgr. position. This also took about a day to complete, but I spent the whole day with that manager. It involved an in-office interview, a portfolio review, lunch with the manager and then an impromptu tour of the town. It started out quite formal and as the day progressed became more informal. All in all a very good interview experience for me up to that point. I left expecting to hear back soon from the manager. I did, and he gave me 'an assignment' to come up with some logo designs with rather strict criteria and deadlines to be met. The logos were submitted and discussed. In the discussion the manager apologized and said that I 'misunderstood' what he had asked for. He then gave me a different assignment to be completed in a shorter time frame. I got the impression he may have been deciding how I worked under pressure, changing project parameters, etc. Upon completion of that assignment I was told that they were acceptable and that I may hear back from them in a couple weeks. There were other candidates they were talking to. About two weeks later the manager called and offered me the job.
Interview Question – It wasn't a question, it was the design assignment where the artwork had to be reproducible /printable from 'matchbook' sized to bill board sized. Definitely required serious design consdierations. Answer Question
Reason for Declining – Pay rate was too low.

Interview Details – Applied online and was contacted 1 month later for a 1:1 interview. I was asked very generic interview questions and then was asked to participate in the 2nd phase of the interview. The 2nd phase consisted of a saliva swab drug test. I was then contacted 1 month later with an offer by the warehouse manager(who is no longer with the company).

Interview Details – The interview took all day and was the Personality test type interview. This interview really did little to find out about me and how you handle real situations. The first interview was with a person who told me he had nothing to do with my position, the second interview was with 3 people asking you questions that were scripted from a manual, and the final interview was with the dept head who really would be your boss. This interview was again a scripted question and answer, all while telling you how they continue to follow their core values that Dick Cabela started. I'm pretty sure that this wasn't the way he grew the company. After the interview I was told it would be 2 weeks for some response; 4 weeks later I finally got a generic reply from the HR dept. After all of the interview they took me to lunch where the Dept head didn't have the time of day for me.I don't quite understand how a company can tell you about how core their values are and then treat a candidate this way HE/SHE has invested several days to interview with this company in the middle of nowhere, and I truly mean nowhere ( the closet bigger town is an 1 hour away, and even by their own admission has no local pediatrician) All I can say is that WOW no wonder companies have trouble finding good employees.

Attended a job fair and presented resume. Was asked typical interview questions, and then I was given the chance to question company make up, theology, wage and benefit, and finally expectations of my position.
Work culture at this particular site is management by intimidation, from the top. No viable solutions or alternative approaches offered as to opportunities presented, only whining and demands. Coaching and problem solving skills would be helpful, or the option of "teaming" up with another, that has the knowledge to move in a positive direction and bring resolution to the opportunity.
