Interviewed Oct 2011 in Arlington, VA (took 1 week)
The hiring process consisted of a phone interview, open house, and second round interview.
Phone interview: The phone interview will be less than 30 minutes and likely conducted by HR. Expect to go over your resume, talk about your greatest accomplishment and biggest weakness. There won't be much time for your questions.
Open House: The open house consists of a presentation about the department and three 20 minute interviews with the group's managers. Be prepared for some hard questions including: Define professionalism, Name three weaknesses using one work for each weakness, What are three things you learned in the presentation earlier, Sell yourself to me, What do you think you'll be doing at this job, Name one positive trait you don't have, etc.
Second Round: The second round will consist of a one on one interview with the Director of the group as well as the manager of the team they think you'll fit best on. You'll also participate at least one round table discussion with people who could be your team members and colleagues. Remember to ask questions. If you're interested in the position, act like it. You'll also do a writing sample, which isn't super challenging.
Bottom line(s):
- The Junior Associate position is likely in the firm's data group. The data group is extremely high performing and well regarded within the firm. If you don't want to work in a data group, don't apply. But there is opportunity for advancement after you have been at the company for a while, so it's worth it.
- The position is not client facing, but you do get to interact with individuals that work for investment managers.
- Professionalism is key! Dress and act the part. Although most people in the department are young, they are professional at work.

Interviewed Apr 2012 in Arlington, VA (took 2 weeks)
I was invited for a phone interview literally 15 minutes after I submitted my resume and cover letter. This interview was very short (maybe 20 minutes) and was just a review of my resume. I was then invited to come for an in-person interview. This consisted of a 45 minute presentation on Cambridge and 15 minute mini-interviews with three managers. These were all your typical behavioral questions.
Two days later, I was contacted to come back for a send round interview. This time I had two mini-interviews, a 30 minute presentation on the position, a short panel interview with current Junior Associates, a writing exercise, and a final wrap-up interview with a manager.
Both days of in-person interviews took about 3 hours. While it was definitely a pleasant experience, they were long days and were meant to mentally wear you out. At times, the questions were very pointed and almost curt, but it wasn't a difficult process.

Interviewed Feb 2012 (took 2 weeks)
Phone interview went very well. Met 3 different people for in person interviews. 2 of the 3 interviewers were absolutely terrible and extremely arrogant. Asked boring standard questions i.e. What is your biggest weakness?

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took 2 weeks)
Initially interviewed with Cambridge Associates on campus. I was invited to their office in Arlington where they gave a presentation and then interviewed with 3 team managers. Most questions about background, to see if you are a good cultural fit. Interviews were not too difficult, but I was convinced I had done well and found out the next day I was no longer being considered for the position.

Interviewed Mar 2012 in Arlington, VA (took 3 days)
I originally heard about this opportunity through my university. The first interview was a 30 minute 1 on 1 screening on my university's campus. I was invited to a second interview at the company's office in Arlington, VA. This was a 2 and 1/2 hour process that they referred to as an "open house". The day started with a 45 minute presentation (by Cambridge Associates staff) on the position and the department (Manager Information Group). I arrived along with 2 other candidates that were interviewing for the exact same position. We then each met individually with 3 different managers. We interviewed with each manager for 20-30 minutes. The day ended with a wrap-up session in which myself and the other three candidates met up again with a Cambridge Associates staff member to ask any final questions that we had.
I was contacted the following day to attend a third interview at the Arlington office. The third interview was also about 2 and 1/2 hours. I met with one of the managers who gave me an hour long presentation on the position, the department and how the department fit into the company. Then there was a 35 minute writing exercise. It was pretty easy. Then I had two 30 minute 1 on 1 interviews. One interview was with the head of the department, the other interview was with another manager that I had met in my second interview.
I had my interview less than 5 days ago and am waiting to hear back from them. They suggested that I interview for another position at the company that aligns better with my experience and career goals. I have an interview for this position in 2 days.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Alexandria, VA (took a day)
I applied through the company website and was contacted almost immediately by HR. We set up a phone interview.
The phone interview was short and very basic; ie the general "walk me through your resume", "why Cambridge Associates", "why should we hire you". And the end the recruiter asked to schedule an in person interview.
I went to the company and sat through 30 minute presentation about the company and the position along with 2 other candidates. It was very rushed, slightly confusing, and covered many things that an applicant should be expected to research.
After that, we each had 3 1-1 30 minute interviews. These too were quite rushed. The interviews read off a list of questions and took notes. There was little flow or genuine conversation as the interviewers simply wanted to get through all the questions in the allotted time.
Despite being excited beforehand, I was a little disappointed with Cambridge and their interview process.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Boston, MA (took 2 months)
First step was a generic phone interview, i.e. favorite class in college, where do you see yourself in 5 years, why CA, etc. Next round is 1:1 with a current Consulting Associate and it has a similar course as the phone interview, but is more to see how you interact with people, and then there was a simple case study about choosing investment managers for a client. Final round is a series of interviews with each interviewer covering a specific portion of you background (College, work experience, interest in investments, what type of person/worker you are, case study (mine was about hedge funds)) given by current Consulting Associates, HR manager, and Consulting manager.
