Interviewed Oct 2010 in Richmond, VA (took 2 days)
I applied online, they contacted me for a phone case interview. After passing that, I had to pass some online intelligence tests, and then they had me come to the home office for a day of behavioral and case interviews. I had 4 interviews with 4 different managers/directors in the strategy group. I had a great experience there, got an offer, and now I have been working there for about 8 months.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Richmond, VA (took 2 days)
Initial interview was on-campus. The first interview was 45 minutes and consisted of behavioral questions and a short case. The case involved calculating how many cars could be refurbished in a month with a certain amount of labor. The in office interview consisted of five interviews. The first four interviews were a mix of behavioral interviews and case interviews. The last interview was just a recap of the interview process and what you like about the process and what carmax could change to improve the interview process.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Richmond, VA (took a day)
I applied via college recruiting website. The interview was 1-on-1 with a Senior Analyst. The interview consisted of mainly behavioral questions. Be prepared to tell them why you want to work for CarMax. At the end there is a short "story problem" where you have to do some basic math. This part was fairly easy.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Richmond, VA (took 3 weeks)
One on campus interview. Then a super day in Richmond at the Corporate office. Both personality and quantitative/ case interview questions. Employees were very friendly. During lunch, they assigned you to a group of current analysts so that you could ask them questions outside of the formal interview process. In such an environment it is easy to become too informal with the interviewers. That's where I think I went wrong.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Kennesaw, GA (took 4+ weeks)
I applied on-line through my school's career website. From there, I did a phone interview with a quick case interview (mostly mathematical). I was immediately invited to come in for the full day interview. The day consisted of several 1 on 1 case interviews, a panel case, lunch with another interviewee and two current analyst in the department I was applying for, personality test, skills test, timed IQ test, background check, drug test, personality interview, and finally a quick interview and tentative offer from one of the higher ups. It was maybe 3 weeks until I got a formal offer and another month before I started. Wonderful people there made the LONG process very enjoyable. Love the job!!

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Richmond, VA (took 3 weeks)
First round consisted of one on campus interview with mostly fit questions and some behavioral. There is also one case question. The interviewer is just gauging to see whether you're interested in the company/job position and comfortable enough with numbers to make the next round. When you make it to final round, CarMax will give you a HBS case and several articles. You do NOT have to prepare a discussion about this case. This is just them selling themselves and a great way to show u did your research (definitely read the material). Final round is at CarMax's home office and consists of several interviews all of which are both behavioral fit and case as well (except for the last one which is used to wrap things up). During down time there will be some personality tests, drug test, and lunch with other analysts.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Richmond, VA (took 2 weeks)
Emailed messages with a recruiter and then had a short phone interview with a current strategy analyst to find out about the position. Interviewed on site at CarMax with a manager. Initial questions to discuss background and then the 2 case studies. The case studies were a bit unsettling since the manager is timing you while you are working on the cases. After finishing up the cases, discussed how I've handled various job situations in the past.
