Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 4+ weeks)
Applied online, they called to schedule a 1:1 interview. Went to the interview which was about a half hr in length of questions about my healthcare experience and why I wanted to work there. Then was given a tour of the unit and called back after my reference checks and background check was completed to go for a health screening and drug test. Most people didn't even notice I was on the floor of the unit unless the manager had introduced me to them, it was very busy and unless you were a patient with a bed call button you were unnoticed.

Negotiation Details
There isn't much room for negotiation, they have a standard benefit package for employees so time off, time of raises, etc is standard. However when you get hired you can negotiate on your initial rate of hire offer, they might not come up much on your pay rate but they may come up some and have previously.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took a day)
A little intimidating - several of us being cycled through for interview at same time. All competing for one job, and was told that interviews had already been going on for a couple of weeks. Did not hear anything for about a month because they were still interviewing. Did not get the job, and now thinking it is not going to be easy to get into the system, even with a lot of experience.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in Charlotte, NC (took 4+ weeks)
Consisted of a HR screening call to ensure I could conjugate nouns & verbs, a disorganized one-on-one with a director, a peer interview from a group that were not actually peers and a AVP. Seemed there was a definite lack of communication and coordination between the hiring managers and HR.

Very long and drawn out process. If you need a job right away do not go here. After being interviewed I had to go back for a skills assessment and then had to wait several days to hear how I did on that. I was then scheduled for a health assessment and drug screen. I had to take my immunization record, and have booster shots and a TB skin test. The drug test was one of the immediate pee stick ones. They checked for marijuana, cocaine, and opiates. There was an orientation the next week, and I started working immediately. The company makes you feel insignificant, and unneeded.

Interviewed Feb 2009 in Charlotte, NC (took 3 days)
Carolinas is great in that they will have multiple people interview you to assess fit for a variety of openings. Be prepared that you might not be interviewed for just one opening. At first, I was confused as to why I was interviewing with Directors from other divisions. Now that I'm in the job, I understand more. Even at staff level, interviews included peers, supervisors, and executive leadership (AVP). It gave me the impression that the executives are engaged in the process and people. The folks I interviewed with were very bright and articulate which made me all the more enthusiastic about accepting the offer. Everyone I've seen interview here has had at least a full day onsite of interviews. That is only after phone interviews with HR and then with supervising manager.

Negotiation Details
Being such a large organization, negotiation was minimal. I countered twice (not just on money) with no movement on their side.

Interviewed Feb 2008 in Charlotte, NC (took 2+ weeks)
I was forwarded to the company via a staffing agency. I interviewed with HR on the phone (general career questions and resume checking) and with a peer 1:1 in person. Moderate level technical questions. Followed by a 1:1 leadership interview in person. Background and situational interview, moderately difficult. Was contacted by the staffing agency within a week that the company had selected me. Completed a drug test and background investigation before starting work. Worked as a contractor through the staffing agency for one year before being brought on board full time - but the usual wait time is 90 to 120 days.

Negotiation Details
The company pays below market due to its nature as a public healthcare facility, but you can negotiate up to market in most cases. The more senior the role, the more negotiation room there is.

Interviewed Jun 2009 in Charlotte, NC (took a day)
You interview initially with the manager of the unit. It is then followed by a peer interview. The questions that they ask are similar. The guestions are mostly scenario questions. They want examples of when you dealt with a difficult patient. They will ask why you want to work for their organization. The manager was very nice and the hr department is very helpful. Even though I didn't accept the offer. They continued to look for other positions with a more suitable schedule.
