Interviewed Apr 2010 (took a day)
I was referred to the interview by my friends cousin. Did some prior research on the company and found a lot of negative things about CBeyond so I was hesitant going in. The interview went great which lasted about an hour where I sat in front of two employees who told me how great it was to work there. I asked a few questions about their company and their response to everything was that the job was hard but rewarding. After the interview I went back online and did more research and realized it was not the job for me. Do the research for yourself and you will see what I mean

Interviewed May 2010 in San Diego, CA (took 5 days)
This position is beneficial for a select few individuals looking for an entry level position and are ready to join a frat or sorority team of kids. I've been unemployed for almost a year now, and I walked away from a $33K salary/full benefits opportunity with this company.........
My face to face interview, fine. It wasn't until I requested, and attempted to go on a ride along day (7:30am-7:30pm in which I would see if I was a right "fit" for the position) when I wrote Cbeyond off within 2 hours.
>>>>>There is mandatory DAILY office time and meetings from 7:30am -10:30am for ALL sales associates both new and seasoned, which I attended bright and early. After this time ALL sales team can then hit the road to see accounts and generate business.
I witnessed the early morning sales meeting time and pep-rally ......it was horrific. In short, 1/2 the sales team swore openly. Part of the morning's meeting time was dedicated to how the sales team gets past gatekeepers in which they role-played this......... I was appalled. The 3 sales associates who volunteered were flat out rude and obnoxious in all 5 of their role-play scenarios. I thought they were kidding! Not one of the 15+ colleagues watching the performance with me said anything on their disgustingly rude behavior, and their sales manager highly praised them on it! I continued to think, "Is this REALLY what they say and do when they are out there selling the companies' services and products? You gotta be kidding me? Wow!"
Rude, stuck-up, snobby, kid behavior apparently is how they do it here at the Cbeyond San Diego location. I'm truly amazed this company is doing as well as it is doing. Big business, nice San Diego office, sales team and managers are immature "frat/sorority-minded" kids and business appears to be run that way. No thanks.

Interviewed May 2010 (took 2 days)
I went through a recruiter who helped set up an appointment with the HR department. There was a short phone interview which consisted of typical questions such as:
1. Why sales?
2. Why do you think you'll be a good fit?
The next day, I had a one one one interview with the HR lady. Again, she asked typical questions such as:
1. Why did you quit your last job?
2. Why do you think you'll be a good fit?
3. Why did you choose this company?
4. What makes you stand out from the rest?

Interviewed Apr 2009 in Anaheim, CA (took 5 days)
I was called by a third party recruiter about a job opportunity for door to door sales with a real base salary and commission. The base seemed attractive, about 31,000 a year and goes up to 41,000 a year within 6 months. I came in and interviewed with her and she sent me off to meet the HR Lady at CBeyond. The HR Lady was nice and the office seemed pretty cool. She told me about the position and showed me their fancy grid of how they pay their employees. I was a bit weary about this "cold-calling" business, which is really walking door to door in a "territory" and trying to get small business owners to buy your product. I wasn't sure about this but I decided to accept the offer to go on a job shadow day at their Anaheim Office. I got there bright and early at 7am (or 8am, can't remember), and the whole office was filled with young 20 somethings like myself. Except they all seemed a bit immature and they were calling one guy T-Bag. So right off the bat, negative impression of the people there. I had to sit in on a sales meeting where they were discussing fun group outings. I thought that was cool that they had a good, fun environment. After watching them make phone calls and talking with some of the reps, I was sent out on a job shadow with this obnoxiously preppy girl. She didn't even want to take a real lunch break... what kind of company doesn't let you take a lunch break? We ran into her manager at the The District in Irvine when we were having lunch. I also noticed that throughout the day she was getting phone calls and having to check in with the manager... micro-manage much? I'm not a fan of that... it makes you feel like you're a child. The day was ridiculous, people were yelling at us from being from CBeyond, the majority of them had heard of us but NONE of them had anything positive to say.
You also had to do this "5 after 5" thing where you get 5 business cards after 5pm... so you don't end up back at the office until at least 6pm!! They make you fill out a report and so most of the people don't even leave til 7pm at night! Who would want to work 12 hours a day, drive all over Southern California and receive little or no respect.
The person below me has it right, they also sell horribly OVERPRICED products. In addition to that, they try and tell you that they give you a phone and lure you in that way... their phone was an OLD blackberry...the kind with the side scroll.. that's how old it was. And they only give you that so they can call you and e-mail you throughout the day to bug you.
I was called in for a 2nd interview the following day to meet with the VP of something. My meeting was at 1pm and I got there at 12:50.... the guy didn't meet me until almost 1:30pm!! SO UNPROFESSIONAL! He was smug and rude when we spoke. I was not a fan of the people who worked here.

Very simple. The hiring managers will try to intimidate you to get a a reaction but if you remain calm and insist you want the job, they will be sold.

Interviewed Aug 2009 in Los Angeles, CA (took 1 week)
I was set up with the recruiting manager via an outside recruiter. I did a quick phone interview and she notified me that they would like to bring me in for an interview. During the interview, she asked me some questions about my background and told me a lot about the company and how "moving up the ladder" works. I was invited back for a field ride later that week. The day of the field ride, I was put in with a sales team and attended a training session. There were about 50 new hires in a big room listening to a presenter and following along in their manuals. Nobody other than people I introduced myself to seemed to even notice a new face in the room. I got the impression that a LOT of people interview there every day and that the turnover is incredibly fast for new hires.
I was basically just thrown in with a random guy on the team who let me tag along with him on his day. The recruiting manager told me that she thought I would be a good fit for the Beverly Hills territory, yet she had me go along with a guy whose territory was around LAX (aka WAY different than BH). It was awful - basically trying to get a bunch of people to switch over to CBeyond's bundle service which nobody was interested in. A lot of the people also said that someone from CBeyond had already been in there within the last couple of weeks. CBeyond tells you when they set up the field ride that they want you to try to do the "pitch" as much as you feel comfortable. I didn't want to mess up the guy's whole day - basically I didn't want to cost him money by blowing deals! He never asked if I wanted to try, but I asked and did about 8-10 of the visits. I got feedback that I wasn't aggressive enough with taking the reigns. I was very happy when I found out I did not get an offer. Definitely not a fit for me!
On a positive note - all the people I met seemed really fun and nice!

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Gardena, CA (took a day)
I was contacted by a phone recruiter who wanted to ask me a few questions. I answered them and he suggested if I was interested to call him and set up an interview. I did, and had the 1:1 interview with a recruiting manager.
The 1:1 interview was a neutral experience. Good for experience points, but rather kind of lame in content. I was asked why I want this job, why would you be good, etc. standard questions. But I was also noticing what was not asked. No questions about my education were asked, and no questions regarding my degree. I believe an education is a firmly established part of an individual. Cbeyond disregarded this information and it was obvious that as long as you have a degree they are willing to hire you, regardless of what the degree is.
During the interview the recruiting manager acted in a perfunctory matter, as if everything done was out of routine and habit. In other words, there was no originality or personality, but more of a corporate voice that seemed to echo off the white boards that surrounded the room. It was clear this wasn't the recruiter's first rodeo, but something practiced until perfection.
I was left with a decision to take the next step, which is to shadow an employee for a day, not an 8 hr day but a 12 hr day. I have declined further advancement with this company.
About a week later, a different recruiter called me to offer an interview for the same position. I couldn't help but think how hard up this company is for new employees, and more significantly, why? The job must suck so bad nobody wants to do it and so they are left recruiting the only people they can, and hope to retain them for at least a few months.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Reston, VA (took a day)
I was called by the recruiting manager of the company and he asked standard preliminary phone interview questions of what is my interest level in the job position and what do I know about the company.
Went in for the face to face interview. It was more on the cut and dry side, they ask specific questions to see if you actually want to work their and in a particularly tough sales environment in every kind of way. One thing that you have to be 100% certain of is your willingness to put in 12 hour days.
