Interviewed Jul 2011 (took a day)
Recruiter is very responsive and on time with the interview process. Everything was taken care of from flight to interview schedule in a timely and predictable manner. The interview consists of 3 people from 3 different areas of Cerner and uses the STAR approach to interview. At no point in time did I have to worry about HR not getting back to me because they communicate with you every step of the way. The entire interview process is very smooth from phone screen with HR to 1:1 interview.

Interviewed May 2011 in Kansas City, MO (took a day)
I was contacted originally by Cerner a couple weeks after graduating college. I went ahead and agreed to a phone interview. After the first interview i was invited to the campus for 2 more. I turned down the last 2 interviews due to personal reasons. A few months later i re-evaluated and submitted my application online. I was contacted within a month (I had already found a new job by this time) and they invited me to take my final 2 interveiws. Traveled to KC MO (expenses paid by Cerner) and spend a few hours touring the place, learning the velocity program and my final 2 interviews. The interviews are mostly the basic HR interviews. The most technical question i had was regarding SQL. "Please explain the difference between a relational and non relational database." I was confused and stumbled a bit over the question but was able to figure out about 3rd Normal Form and that seemed to please her. I am an extreemely social person and used that to my advantage. I kept conversation fluent as well as used my technical experience from my previous position to promote myself. I was called 2 days later with a job offer.

Negotiation Details
Non negotiable. This type of offer is very generous considering my lack of experience just coming from college.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Kansas City, MO (took 1 week)
Cerner called me out of the blue a few weeks after graduation to tell me that I matched a significant amount of of what they were looking for. There was a brief phone interview in which I was presented with the opportunity to speek freely about my past, and then ask questions about the company. They then flew me out to KCMO that week after expressing interest to continue the interview process. They picked me up in a private town car and took me to Cerner's WHQ where I met with 3 other people for face to face interviews. It was over the course of a few hours so nothing was terribly rushed. I was made to feel very comfortable and very welcome during the entire process. The questions were tough. They had a significant amount of situational questions along the lines of "what would you do" or "tell me about a time". So be ready for that. Also bare in mind that they are looking for the highest quality people to fill their roles. Their day to day activities quite seriously are a matter of life or death to patients in hospitals. If a coder makes a mistake on their software that allows for a bad medication to be distributed, then people can die.
Cerner took every step to ensure that they put their best foot forward. To those prospective job candidates who are seeking positions with Cerner, this means that you must do the same.
After the interview they told me they would be in touch with in a few days.
I cannot express how fantastic an experience the whole thing was. Every step of the way Cerner took the time to make sure that every fine detail was accounted for. If offered an opportunity to interview with them I highly recommend that you take it.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Kansas City, MO (took 2 months)
Step 1: Establish a contact.
Step 2: Pressure contact into getting back with you.
(It was my impression that the recruiters were under pressure to get a high volume of specific candidates into the campus and therefore were too busy to deal with non-targeted candidates, despite the fact that they needed to hire them)
Step 3: Phone interview. Consists of questions about specific times or situations in your professional/academic life where you had to overcome adversity or solve a difficult challenge.
Step 4: Tour Campus
Step 5: Interview in person while you are touring campus for a day.
Step 6: Good Luck.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took 2 days)
The interview process was very smooth and everyone was courteous. Keep in mind that the interviews are primarily based around your skills and you'll do fine. They took me out to dinner at the Capital Grille and gave me a good overview of Kansas City and the entire Cerner Campus.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Kansas City, MO (took a day)
I was contacted by a Cerner recruiter saying he had found my resume online. Basically he described the position to me and asked if it was something i would be interested in. He asked some basic questions such as what my technical background included, and if i had any experience with Unix/Linix software. The recruiter asked me to put in my official application and email him my availability for a second phone interview. I believe the recruiter is trying to see your personality in the initial interview. Are you personable and excited to have an opportunity to work at Cerner? Keep that in mind during your phone interviews.
I was recently contacted for a second HR interview via phone. As someone else mentioned, they call at the exact time they say they will. The supposed 30 minute interview was with a HR associate (Mary) and was a review of my resume. I had web design and sites i had made posted on my resume. The associate went to each site and asked specific questions about challenges i faced while making them. There were many group interaction related questions regarding my senior project. Mary proceeded to ask how familiar i was with the technologies they used at Cerner (VM Ware, .net, and a few others). I was honest, i didn't have any experience with them, and she seemed to expect it saying that they are oriented more towards large corporations. The 30 minute interview ended up taking 50 minutes because conversation went well. BE CONVERSATIONAL, keep in mind they are looking for a potential peer. The following day, I was contacted by my recruiter and asked to come to Kansas City for an in-person interview next week. Ill post how it went after next week.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Kansas City, MO (took 3 weeks)
Had an interview on my college campus with 2 software engineers. They both thought I would be a better systems engineer so I then had a phone interview about a week later with a systems engineer. A week after that they invited me to Kansas City for on-site interviews. I was just looking at the site to get a feel for what to expect for the interview, what it would be like working at Cerner, and what a typical starting salary is.

Interviewed Sep 2009 (took a day)
This was my first interview with Cerner. Most of the questions were related to behavior, team dynamics, etc... very few technical questions were asked. I was offered the interview after a brief talk with a recruiter at a campus career fair. I am not scheduled for two additional interviews in a few weeks.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Kansas City, MO (took 3 months)
Let me just start by saying that Cerner was dodging around my interviews for quite some time. I initially had 2 interviews with them through a university career fair event and they were good about contacting me back and staying on track then, but that all changed.
The interviews were pretty much talking with your would-be bosses and they were standard cookie cutter questions like the typical "describe a time when youve done (blank)". Although it wasn't the actual interviews that bothered me, the process was so tedious and daunting that I don't want to interview with them again. After having interviewed with them, I was invited to their "visit Cerner campus" day, and was told at the interview that I'd receive an email saying when that was to take place. That email never came so I contacted the recruiter, who then said he "forgot?" to send it to me and that he needed to now check on my application status. I send an email about once every other week to see what's going on and finally the recruiter tells me that they "didn't know" about my status and that they wanted to conduct a third phone interview in the next month. By this point, a lot of time had gone by. I had initially interivewed with them in September and it was already December. I could tell they were just avoiding contact and didn't want to hire me. Why couldn't they just say so? The phone interview finally happened (which was the same stereotypical cookie-cutter interview) in January, and I never heard back so I emailed again, where I was finally told just to see them at the career fair in February again. Needless to say, I avoided their table - Cerner's interview process is totally dodgy.
