Interviewed Apr 2012 in Austin, TX (took 2 weeks)
I initially applied online and my application was pre-screened out because I accidentally indicated that I would need sponsorship. I emailed the company and was contacted via phone two weeks later with instructions on how to fix my application. The same talent coordinator who helped me fix my application also pre-screened me in a ten minute conversation then immediately scheduled me for a full phone interview three days later. I spoke to another recruiter for an hour and then was immediately scheduled for a final interview with two managers four days after that. I spoke with the two managers via conference call for an hour and was told I would be contacted in 2-4 business days with the status of my application. I received an email three days later saying that I would not move forward. The interviews ask a lot of behavioral style questions and many of them are similar - come prepared with more than one example of every question you can think about.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Austin, TX (took 1 week)
I applied online and received an email from an HR rep about a week later for a phone interview. The phone interview was very awkward. The HR rep was taping the interview and a few times it was like she was on a cell phone where there would be a pause in her sentence and I would miss what she was saying. I had to ask her to repeat her questions a few times. Additionally, she did not speak clearly, so it was hard overall to understand her. The questions started out very basic - walk me through your resume, why do you want to work here and give me an example of when you.... She asked a few questions about how you would react to change (ex. economic environment). Or how would you market this product to already informed customers? A couple of questions were phrased in way that made it evident that she did not understand the role or marketing. I received an email a week later saying they were looking at other candidates. The biggest difficulty of the whole interview was understanding the questions because there were large delays and she didn't speak clearly.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Austin, TX (took 3+ weeks)
I first applied online and went through their application process and after about 2 weeks I received an email and then a call expressing their interest in interviewing me for the position. The first call came and the only question that was asked was: "why do you want to work for schwab?' A few days later another internal HR recruiter called be to ask me a series of questions. I found her to be unprofessional and completely unprepared for the interview. However, after I probed a little deeper and found out that there was only a chance of a bump up in pay from their very small base salary of $34,000 after the 10 month training program is completed and you become a licensed broker, I was not excited about spending the next 10 or more months making $34 k only to have a possibility of an increase in pay at my supervisors discretion. Also, I found it humorous that their is a rather lengthy qualification list that they expect, however the pay certainly isn't going to attract the best talent.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Austin, TX (took 4 weeks)
I recently interviewed with Charles Schwab for the Broker Trainee Program. The process started with a 30 minute phone interview with an HR representative. For this interview you should be prepared to discuss the history of Schwab as well as answer some behavioral based questions. Following this, I had to take an assessment test to determine the likelihood of me passing the Series 7 and 63 exams. After I passed, I had a 3-person panel interview on the phone. After reading the reviews on this site, I assumed I was done interviewing after this process. However, I was called today and they asked me to fly down there in order to meet with them. I'm sure this means I'll be doing another interview, seeing the facilities, etc. I'm excited, but I don't know what to expect for this interview besides possibly a background check.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Austin, TX (took 2 weeks)
I submitted my application 6/10, went through a phone screen, on-site interview, and had an offer by 6/25.
The phone screen was with a developer and was a straight forward verification of my technical skills. There weren't any trick questions; it was all material that a person qualified for the position would know. The interviewer was friendly and more interested in finding out what I knew and didn't know than trying to stump me.
The on-site interview was a series of 3 interviews, 2 with 3 developers from the group (including the one I had already spoken with on the phone), and the third with the department manager and the developer I would be replacing (he was promoted to an business analyst position). Their system architect was supposed to be in the third interview, but had to bow out at the last minute due to some work issue.
The developers asked a few more technical questions focused on my understanding of multi-threading and performance. The performance questions dealt with more general things, like default constructors and references and what issues come up when you use certain constructs in your code. One of the questions was a bug that had stumped one of the developers for a few days. I didn't manage to come up with the exact answer, but they seemed satisfied that I knew where to start looking; it was more like a friendly "let's talk about something real-world and interesting" than a "let's fluster the candidate". The developers were open and shared what it was like to work in their group so I had a pretty good idea of the environment before I finished the on-site interview.
The final interview with the department manager and analyst was about my work style and had no technical questions. They were trying to determine how I fit in with their team. It seemed important to them that I could work independently and adjust quickly as requirements changed. There was some discussion of how I handled conflicts with co-workers. They asked how I liked to interact with my management. I told them I like to know the priorities for my tasks and where they fit in with what everyone else is doing and that I'm proactive in informing the appropriate people when there's a possibility that a deadline might not be met, so I don't like having a manager constantly pinging me for status updates. That seemed to be a good fit for their team. As a financial company, they were pretty concerned about developers that go in and fiddle with code or bring new technologies into production code without good reason. They need developers that are very disciplined about making changes to code that can cost them millions of dollars a minute if it takes one of their servers out of commission.
The group of people I met were smart and friendly. If you know what you said you know on your resume, the only reason you would have trouble with this interview is if you wouldn't do well in their work environment.
