Interviewed Mar 2012 in Lees Summit, MO (took 1 week)
I came into the store, 15 minutes early, waited for almost half an hour because the person in charge forgot she had an interview that day and lost all my information. She came out to get me, didn't introduce herself, didn't ask my name, didn't even shake my hand which is practically protocol nowadays. She asked me three questions in total, when I was going to graduate college (completely irrelevant for a Summer job, which I marked on the app), what I was going to do with my Accounting degree after school, and if I was going to need time off. The interview literally lasted 2 minutes. The interviewer clearly did not want to be there and I knew she wasn't going to hire me the instant she looked at me. It didn't help when she basically told me she wasn't going to call me because she doesn't have time to call everyone. She obviously didn't read my application or my resume before I entered the interview. I'm a cute girl, I'm smart, I'm nice and I know where I'm going in life so that interview should have been a straight shot to a job for me but the interviewer ruined it. This company needs to work on some serious HR training, I'm glad she never called me back because there's no way in hell I'm going to ever work for a company like Charming Charlies after that interview, I'm way too good for that!

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took 4 weeks)
I applied on line, an HR person called me a couple of weeks later, and then scheduled a 1:1 interview a few weeks after that. It was unclear what position I was interviewing for, she said 'come in for a chat'.
I admit I had some reservations going in as I had heard some bad things about the company. I arrived 15 minutes early and looked for a parking place per the HR lady, "in front or on the side of the building". There was zero parking and the only spaces were far away at the adjacent strip center, all marked "1 hour parking only". I didn't know how long my interview would last, so when I got to the reception area (still 5 minutes early) I asked the receptionist if I would be towed. She advised me that there was a parking garage down the block and I should move my car there. I told her that would make me late by the time I walked back to my car, moved it and walked back down the block to the building. She said she would let the interviewer know. So by the time I got into the interviewer's office, it was probably 10 after the hour. The Interviewer gave me an overview of his career, some information about the Charming Charlie business, gave a laundry list of all the recent hires who each had "20-30 years experience" in retail, and then asked me about "my marketing passion". We spent a short time discussing my experience and general marketing and advertising topics where he made several scornful remarks about "blondes" in various advertising campaigns. I'm blonde. The he asked me about "my marketing passion" again (I had already answered that question). Long story short, he did 90% of the talking, and then abruptly ended the interview at about 5-10 minutes before the hour saying he had another interview coming up right away and blaming me for the parking problem. And, could I follow up with an email describing why they might want to hire me and what position I should fill. I said I had a bunch of questions for him that I had no chance to ask. He asked me to include that in the Emai or that we could have a follow up call. In other words, beg for a job I still didn't know very much about, without giving any reason why Charming Charlie would be a good place to work. The next day I sent an Email with several questions. He never replied, which is fine because I would never work for that company. By the way, walking through the floor to the Interviewers office, we passed by many many young girls (no one over 25) crammed at work stations (not even cubicles). They did seem to be having fun, sorting through boxes of plastic wrapped cheap jewelry. However I didn't catch even a glimpse of any of the high powered new hires he talked about.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Detroit, MI (took 2 months)
I applied for the position online for two locations in the area back in mid December. I did not hear anything about the position until mid Feb when I was unexpectedly contacted by phone at 8pm on a weeknight. We set up a day and time for the interview. I interviewed with 2 women ( a DSM and a training Mgr) who were both very nice. They interview lasted approx. 30 minutes. They focused alot on store volume and compared it to my previous experience. The interview went well, but I am kind of surprised to have not heard anything back from them because I do have 10 years of experience at a similar company. The interview took place in the food court which is right out front of the store. During the interview there was a little 3 yr old boy wondring around alone and the interviewers took notice of him right away and one of them excused herself to go help him find his mom. This served as a bit of a distraction for all three of us and I felt like it was difficult to get back on track afterwards.

Interviewed Oct 2010 (took 1 week)
The interview in my opinion went well or at least I thought. The interviewer had asked me a series of questions and she seemed intrigued by my answers and overall presentation. The interview had lasted about 30 minutes and had informed me that I will contacted once my background is cleared.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Houston, TX (took 4+ weeks)
The most unprofessional interview process of my career. Two no shows, one for a phone interview and the other for a face to face interview. Finally get an offer for a position I did not interview for and lower salary. Company would not return emails when I had questions on specifics. Then they present offer again and give me just 90 minutes to respond. Of course I declined - who would want to work for a company with such little consideration and respect for prospective candidates. The HR representation is only part of the process, although extremely unprofessional, this comes from the executive level down.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
offer declined as the interview and offer process was eye opening, if it was this bad going in then how would it be working there? Obviously not good. The company is going to have to get their act together and treat prospective candidates fairly in order to retain A List talent. I would not recommend anyone in my network waste their time interviewing with this company. There are plenty other companies in Houston with integrity.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Garland, TX (took a day)
The manager who called sent me to the wrong location for the interview, but the manager at that store was very nice and gave me the interview and I got hired. Although only later did I realize that it was only to help with the new store opening, I never really had a solid position. Due to all the confusion of workers not knowing if they had a solid position to stay, majority quit the day before the store opened. Over all really disorganized company.

Interviewed Sep 2011 (took 2 days)
I interviewed with the training manger on Sept 6th at the National Harbor location and had read all the reviews and company information in preparation for the meeting. The interviewing manager gave me additional insight that was not available in other formats such as floor move adjustments according to the style and size of the store, staff training and explanation of "gray"areas. When I was asked if I had any questions, the first was "I see that the staff consists of all young associates and that I was warned about age being a factor with this company because it does not fit their image, can you elaborate on this?" I was told that it was not a factor and not true. When I arrived home I had an email to take an online assessment and if I would meet with the training manager in Leesburg. I took the assessment and made arrangements to meet with the Leesburg manager the following day. At that meeting I was asked if I had any questions and that was the extent of our conversation. Since then I have not had any communication with the training managers or the district manager so apparently age and experience is a factor with this company. I am a very vivacious 54 year old with an exceptional image and have many years experience in running very successful businesses as a Training Manager, Multi-unit District manager and store manager. Structure is needed in their interviewing process and the focus should be put on your strengths and what can you do for the company, not on how you look or your young age! Management must be able to interact with all ages and personalities and this is acquired through experience.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Sandusky, OH (took a day)
Interviewer was friendly and asked many interesting questions about skills and personality. She described the company in depth and was very informative. Prior to the interview I researched the company and the details she provided were spot on, so there was no sugar coating. The interview was quick and fairly easy.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took a day)
After applying for the position, I was contacted after three days. The interview was set up in a different location since the CC I applied for hadn't been set up yet. I got there early, and the interviewer was not even there yet. As I walked around the store, she finally showed up after the time the interview was to take place. She took me in the back stock room and conducted the interview. It was a standard interview, but the interviewer seemed like she was all over the place. She would interrupt me to tell me how she loved my shoes, or something else random that had nothing to do with the position. After the interview she said if she could not offer me the assistant manager's position, she would be more than willing to offer a Charmer's position. After two weeks, I didn't hear from her so I sent a follow-up email. She simply said the manager's positions had been filled and asked if I would be interested in the Charmer's position. I asked about more information about the position and she never responded. Then, a week later, I get a call about a second interview for the assistant manager's position. I feel there is such a lack of communication within the company, no organization, and I didn't want to be involved, so I declined the offer and went with a different company.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Gilbert, AZ (took 1+ week)
I applied online, received a call from a hiring managers. After a short & general phone interview (I was from out of town) I was asked to meet them for a 1-on-1. After meeting them, I was told I'd be called in a few days if an offer was being made. I did & began working 1 wk later.

Negotiation Details
Yes. The store was brand new & still trying to get established in the new location, so negotiation was absolutely welcome. The pay structure is pretty much set in stone. So if you want more than minimum wage, apply for management. The scheduleing was pretty much negotiable from every angle. Several of the staff hired were temporary, & the majority were hired permanent part-time. I'd say, let your interviewer know your availability right away. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to work with you.
