Interviewed Dec 2011 in Oakbrook Terrace, IL (took 3 days)
I went in for the first day and had a brief interview in which I talked to a manager about my background and he explained the position. They asked me to come back the next day but I couldn't come until 2 days later. I came in and shadowed an employee for the entire day. I realized this was quite literally door to door sales. After returning from the full 8 hour day of door to door sales in the winter, they had me meet with another manager for an extremely brief third interview. The next day I had a job offer.

Reason for Declining
Door to door sales was not exactly what I was looking for.

Interviewed Jan 2012 (took 3 days)
I interviewed with Chicago Business Strategies a few weeks back. I found the interview process to be much more in depth than other interviews than I have been on in the past. The initial interview was with one of the directors. He explained the background of the company and the future vision of the company. He was great in making sure I left that day with all my questions answered. The second interview was a job shadow with one of the sales reps. I really enjoyed going out and seeing a typical day. That really cleared up all my questions about the entry level role. All in all I thought the people there were professional as well as easy to talk to and very informative. I accepted a position there with intentions of gaining some valuable experience within the business world and a possibility to grow within the company.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Oakbrook Terrace, IL (took 1 week)
I was initially contacted by CBS in early January, by their receptionist who saw my resume on careerbuilder.com. She was interested in talking to me and setting up an interview, so I called a few hours after I got the email. She described what they did and who they were looking for and we set up an interview for the following day (short notice, but whatever). The first interview was with a manager (they have a few in the oakbrook office), and she basically said the exact same thing as the receptionist did the previous day. She reviews your resume a bit and your previous employment then if she likes you, she calls you for a 'second interview'. BEWARE, this 'interview' is a job shadow and you ARE ON YOUR FEET ALL DAY. I was with a super nice guy on my 'second interview' and he answered all my questions. Following all day of going from business to business, I had a third interview and was offered a job.

Reason for Declining
I declined because you literally drive to every business in your territory and try to get businesses to sign up for quill. That's all fine and dandy if you like that sort of stuff, but its so boring and you get rejected more times than i could count. Everyone was nice and friendly but its so typical of entry level sales. They also expect you to use your own car and pay for your own gas. It sucks if your designated territory is far from the office. I suppose there is room for advancement after you do b*tch work.

The people here are WONDERFUL. Everyone all the way down to the receptionist was helpful and welcoming. They are really willing to answer any and all questions, and the second interview out in the field was very eye opening.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Chicago, IL (took 1 week)
I can't remember if I applied to the position on Monster.com or if they just found my resume. But they contacted me the morning after I posted my resume. HR called me unexpectedly, and did a short phone interview/screening process. Even though I wasn't prepared, she was impressed that I knew of the company Quill, and invited me in for a one-on-one interview. I went the next day and interviewed with the President. He was very nice and professional, but the interview was short and mostly consisted of him making the pitch for the entry-level sales job. CBS promised a lot of professional growth and quick promotions.
I got invited to shadow an associate all day (930-430). I literally took public transit and walked all around the city, walking into businesses to discuss their product. I didn't do much of the sales, but I watched the employee I was shadowing. It was pretty miserable: a lot of walking outside, rejection, and boring. But the employee I was with made it seem pretty great and also promised lots of promotions and even gave me a timeline that finished with me making 150k in less than 3 years. Looking back now, that's pretty unrealistic.
I thought I did a great job on the shadow and the employee and I got along great. I thought I would get another interview or an offer. But I never heard back. I sent a thank you email and card. I was pretty unimpressed with the company. I did more research after it became clear i wasn't getting the job, and it just did not seem legitimate. I am sure it is, but they lack professionalism if they can't even call me to let me know I didn't get the job, after I spent over 8 hours on interviews with their company. I can't even tell you how much money I lost but not going into my other job.
Long story short, if you are offered the shadow-interview, and you don't have another job to go to, I suggest going. You learn a lot and it doesn't hurt to try. But I don't think its worth going if you have a job you'd have to take time off for. And its pretty much only for kids that have just graduated and looking for entry level and are willing to do anything. Before you accept, do as much research on them as possible.
Good luck!

Very easy phone screen, and initial 1:1 interview was more informational than an actual interview.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Oak Brook, IL (took 2 days)
I interviewed with this company about a week ago. My initial contact was with their HR department. They called me after reviewing the resume I submitted via Career Builder. The lady on the phone was very nice and very informative. She had a few basic questions about my resume but what really impressed me was that she really wanted to know what I was looking for.
I agreed to come in for a first interview where I met 1 on 1 with one of their staff. The guy was really nice. We talked about my previous positions, my responsibilities and what MY qualifications would be for the company I chose to work for next. After that, he went into great detail about the company. We discussed a typical day, what my potential job duties would be and the expectations for myself and what I could expect from them. He informed me about potential advancement with their company and how I could achieve it.
I can honestly say that I left there will all my questions answered and then some. Everybody I met was very nice and upbeat.
I did get called back and went for a second interview. I did spend an entire day with one of their reps and got to see what an average day would be like. From my experience I wish more companies would do this. It was a great experience and furthermore it was exactly what the gentleman told me it was gonna be when he talked about it in his first interview.
Overall I found this company to be very accommodating and very informative. There are a lot of sales and marketing jobs out there but this is one of the few that go out of their way to make sure I understood their company and that I had all MY questions answered.

Negotiation Details
Do ask about compensation...don't worry...if you don't ask they will bring it up. They do provide a base. But also offer commission plus bonuses. I found that this company is very open and will work with individuals on a case by case basis.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Oak Park, IL (took a day)
They pulled my resume from CareerBuilder and contacted me to see if I was interested in the job opening. They then arranged a face to face interview at their location in Oak Brook, IL. They sent me a confirmation email with the address and directions.
I arrived onsite, this is a large office building with many offices in it, walked into the office which seemed very empty (this is at about 3:15PM on a Wednesday - non holiday). There was a very nice receptionist who gave me a single sided sheet of paper that was the application, looked like a word document that asked for my name, phone, address, and to list qualifications I thought were relevant to the position. The receptionist asked that I attach my resume and references to this sheet. she took the paperwork to someone in an office and came back telling me I would meet with this person in a moment. I proceeded to look at the fish tank for awhile as the receptionist made chit chat with me about what kind of music I liked while she changed music that was playing apologizing that the T.V. behind her was broken.
I was called into the office of the woman she had given my application to by about 3:30PM.She asks very usual questions about my experience, why I'm interested in the company etc, nothing particularly challenging or off the wall. She then explains what their consulting firm does. Basically it’s a traveling outside sales position, although she never really said travelling she just said it was a face to face approach which set them aside in the industry etc and that ideally you visit 2-3 clients a day. Obviously this means travel. This whole thing took maybe 10 minutes.
I then asked the numerous questions I had about how stable she felt the company was, if there were benefits, what the quotas were, if there were set leads or if I would be sourcing those myself and about the compensation. Most interesting thing was that you pick how you are compensated each with options of commission only or base plus commission. I have never had a position which deals with commission or bonuses so I do not know how normal it is that you can change your compensation weekly, but just as an FYI.
She tells me she making phone calls at 5:00PM that night letting me know if I will move on to the second interview or not. I look at my phone as I am nearing my car and its 3:50PM. I drive home and hear back from her at 5:33PM. She says they are interested in the second "interview" , which she explained onsite as being a day of job shadowing. She wanted me to come in at 9:30AM and stay until after 4:00PM shadowing one of the executives. She asks if I can come in tomorrow. Here’s where I start feeling really unsure.
At this point she knows I am working full time in downtown Chicago, basically doing the same sort of work she is in terms of conducting interviews. Why would she ask me to come next day? That’s a little unprofessional on my part if I say "Sure!" maybe this is a test? I reply "No I have a commitment to my current job; I wouldn't be able to come until sometime next week." She then posed next week Monday as a possible time. Gives my current employer only 2 business days notice, again a bit rash on my part but I haven’t had time to think it out and don't want to lose the opportunity to someone else. I agree to Monday.
Next day, I check with the references I provided. The company has not checked any references. No confirmation email this time. I am really getting nervous now. I Google the company again, this time very thoroughly, nothing comes up in news, nothing at the BBB, nothing but the company website which has no news section and multiple postings on CareerBuilder, simply hired, and other job sites. And they have a Facebook page. Weird... These guys claim they have been in business since 2005 and "is proud to be recognized as one of the fastest growing direct marketing and consulting firms in Illinois". How is it that there is no news on these guys anywhere? Very odd. Then I start thinking. No Background check or even reference check and they are going to have me with one of their employees for an entire day knowing nothing about me other than what’s on paper? They didn’t ask me to even bring I.D. with me to the second phase interview... Very fishy. Also, I am supposed to lose out on an entire days pay and job shadow with them for the promise of being considered for a third interview. Generally job shadowing comes as a final step to ensure your candidate is interested and would stay with the company before you extend an offer and spend all the money on hiring them.
The verdict? I canceled the second interview. To me there are still too many what ifs to justify me taking an entire day off my current (very nice) job and spending the day making nothing. I have heard of job shadowing, but never an entire day without any pay or perks...
