Business Analyst Internship at Cisco Systems

No Offer – Interviewed in Raleigh, NC – Reviewed Apr 16, 2013

Interview Details – The recruiters for Cisco were incredibly intelligent and put together. They were also very friendly and provided a laid-back interview process. The interview felt far more relational and discussion based rather than sitting through a barrage of questions. They were also very much interested in why I had chosen to take the path I did instead of persisting in discovering why I was good at it.

Interview Question – Altogether, there were no really challenging questions. In fact, most of the questions felt relaxed.   Answer Question

Finance Manager at Cisco Systems

No Offer – Interviewed in Raleigh, NC Feb 2013 – Reviewed Mar 19, 2013

Interview Details – - Submitted Application Online
- Exchanged emails with Cisco recruiter
- Had phone interview with the recruiter, very pleasant.
- Interviews were scheduled, took longer than expected, almost 3 weeks out. First of all, the interviewers are from different locations, interviews were mostly conducted via media onsite. Conference rooms were hard to find. Secondly, the hiring manager was away.
- Took all interviews - one on one with four different people.
- All went well, except with the hiring Manager, he seemed to want to be somewhere else from the very beginning. It made me feel he made up his mind either before or right after he met me, which probably explains why he would ask me a standard HR question and not listen to my answer. I understand but still feel it sucks that I have to give my best effort in answering all his questions. I wanted to leave but had to be patient and show my professionalism.

Note: The difficulty presented by interviews in a format as one on one with different people is that you find yourself repeating things you need to say, you could easily get tired of repeating yourself and ended up short change yourself.

Interview Question – no difficult or unexpected questions. Questions I feel require a bit serious thinkings
- what do you consider to be your lifetime achievements?
- When was the last time you failed and what have you learned from it?

Associate Systems Engineer at Cisco Systems

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Raleigh, NC Nov 2012 – Reviewed Nov 11, 2012

Interview Details – So far application process has been great. I did a short video introducing myself and then had a 1 hour phone interview. They said it would be a half hour interview but it went well and he kept asking questions. I am flying to Raleigh this week for an all day interview session.

Interview Question – Personally, I thought all of the questions were pretty predictable. They want to know what you have done, what you want to do, and how hard you will work. They asked a few generic technical questions like how does a cell phone network work, but nothing to bad. Just relax and you will be fine.   Answer Question

IT Analyst Intern at Cisco Systems

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Raleigh, NC Oct 2011 – Reviewed Nov 25, 2011

Interview Details – I applied on the university website and was invited to have an interview. The night before my interview I attended a Cisco networking event to casually get to know the recruiters. The recruiters were extremely friendly and talking to them ahead of time allowed me to feel more comfortable during my interview.

My interview was with a IT manager and a current IT intern. There were no technical questions and it felt like we all were just having a conversation. It probably was my most laid back and fun interviews because I didn't feel intimated.

A week after my interview I received an email stating that the recruiters were impressed with my qualifications and that they would get back to me as soon as possible. While some of my friends received rejections letters a week after the interview.

3 weeks after my interview I received an email asking for my information to conduct a background check.

A month after my interview I officially received an internship offer.

Systems Engineer at Cisco Systems

No Offer – Interviewed in Raleigh, NC Oct 2011 – Reviewed Nov 1, 2011

Interview Details – The interview takes place on Webex. Cisco's webcam/teleconferencing service. You interview you with a current ASE. The interview is very difficult if you are not from an engineering background, which was my case. They ask questions about some general networking concepts like how a router works, what cloud computing is and other concepts. They also want you to know a lot about the difference services that Cisco provides. Really study up on Cisco. Be honest and if you don't know the answer, don't fake it.

Interview Details – The initial phone interview was fairly standard and there was a skill demonstration required. I believe a captivate 5 test. It seemed to me that the person interviewing me was fairly new to conducting interviews but did a good job. The experience was pretty consistent with other interviews I've had.

Negotiation Details – I definitely did. Always give it a try unless what is offered is exactly what you wanted.
