Senior Network Engineer Interview (Positive Experience; Difficult Interview)
I applied through a recruiter and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at Cisco Systems in January 2010.
Interview Details – The first contact was a screening interview with an internal recruiter over the phone. Quick background in technologies, architectures, protocols, and a review of the resume.
The second contact was a screening interview with the hiring manager. A quick background screen on Cisco technologies, business acumen, and situational questions.
The follow-up interview came - was an in person interview with 3 individual engineers performing technical skills tests (specific to Cisco Technologies, Protocols, Architectures) Then a two person panel (senior network architects) who performed further screening - and a wider breadth of questions to investigate application of technologies to business problems. The final in person interview was with the hiring manager. The discussion was a review of the resume, past work experience and accomplishments, and the positive outcome my contributions had delivered. This was all completed in a full day - and ended with a miniature tour of the campus in San Jose on Tasman Dr.
The final interview was with the Director of the department, and was held over the phone. A quick background provided, this was a very high level discussion, and more of a screen than an interview.
Interview Question – What is the most difficult business problem you have solved, how did you contribute, and what was the outcome? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Negotiation was fast process. There is a total compensation package that is offered, not just made of base salary. It is important that the entire package is considered, and not just a base salary.
