Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Los Angeles, CA Mar 2013 – Reviewed Mar 21, 2013
Interview Details –
The online application is long and similar to Peace Corps because they ask for two recommenders plus two essays. Do not take the essays too lightly; I spent three days on these short pieces because I wanted to insert relative examples of my experience, goals and ideals while discussing my knowledge of the program. The first phone interview was really quick because I was read; I had prepared answers and I had my resume in front of me. The second interview was in person with some new questions and some repeats. Make sure you come well dressed and that you act professional.
You have to be enthusiastic and show them why this position is right for you. Dont just summarize your resume.
If you can go to a school visit I strongly recommend you go. I got to talk a lot about my conversations with the current core members that I met during my visit. I felt more prepared and at ease because I had something concrete that I learned about the program.
Interview Question –
How would u spend your time in the headquarter office?
How do u feel about the uniform?
Answer Question
Negotiation Details – No negotiation.

Interview Details – online application, phone interview. That is it. That's why they hire such lackluster individuals; there are no standards or minimums besides a GED/HS diploma.
Interview Question – I dont understand? Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY May 2012 – Reviewed May 23, 2012
Interview Details –
The 1st interview was through the phone and was 20 or 30 minutes. They asked straight forward questions to get to know you such as:
Why do you want to do City Year?
What are you strengths and weakness?
What is personal and professional goal?
Give an example a good and bad experience working in a team.
The second interview asked almost all the same questions so there are hardly any surprises.
Interview Question – Name three adjectives that best describes you and how will you implement that in working with City Year? Answer Question

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Manchester, NH Oct 2011 – Reviewed Oct 27, 2011
Interview Details – I applied online for serving where most needed was emailed to inform them of times I'd be available for a half hour phone interview within a couple days upon completion of application. The initial phone interview went really well and the interview was very polite and easy to talk to. About 5 days later I was emailed and informed I was matched with the New Hampshire site and asked if I wanted to continue the process. Within a day or so, somebody from New Hampshire contacted me and we set up a more formal phone interview. I was a little less sure of my performance this time around but apparently it went well enough. The second interview was full of hypothetical scenarios and personal background questions. Within another 5 days I was offered a position. The important thing was applying early, having confidence, knowing and showing that you really care about the position and just being honest with yourself and to the interviewer.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Mar 2009 – Reviewed Apr 11, 2011
Interview Details – When applying I had chosen NY as my specific site. I also applied from abroad and CY was very accommodating when it came to setting up interview times that worked with my schedule/the time difference. After submitting the application I had an initial phone interview and then was informed by email that I was chosen for a selection interview. I think City Year prefers to do this interview in person but they will do it over the phone if you cannot come to their offices in Chelsea. The person with whom I did my interview was really personable and friendly and it was a very comfortable interview. Standard questions but definitely emphasize your desire to work with underserved youth and passion for education. Also, make it clear that you are looking for opportunities for leadership development. City Year loves to create new leaders/bring people to their full potential.
Interview Question – They have a program called Camp City Year which corps members plan and implement and they asked how I could enhance that program. View Answer
