I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Codexis (Redwood City, CA) in May 2011
Interview
A department director interviewed me first, then three panels of 2 people each, then finally the HR representative. They are in a bit of a rush to hire folks because they have so many tight-deadline projects, so the interview process was not as long as I would have wished, and there was no tour. Just be sure you can explain your background and why you are a good fit for the position.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
General questions about my previous research and whether I did due diligence to that research by including proper measurements and including appropriate controls.
There were two interview processes: 1) Phone call with the hiring manager 2) Onsite interview with the whole team. You get to talk to all the members in the team including the director and future coworkers.

Question 1
What do you think you are a good fit in this open position?
I applied online. I interviewed at Codexis (Redwood City, CA)
Interview
2-3 hours multiple panels from different departments. Some were nice and some were very serious. After the interview never heard from them again. So I just assumed I didn’t get it.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Codexis (Redwood City, CA)
Interview
HR phone screen, hiring manager phone screen, then flown in for an on-site interview.
During the interview, some of the employees seemed unenthusiastic about working there or uninterested in myself or the interview process (one yawned when I was speaking with the other employee in the interview pair). One employee did not seem to understand a project that I worked on and I tried to explain as best as I could, but after about 15 minutes, she simply concluded "yeah, I don't think it's going to work."
It's possible that I wasn't an outstanding candidate or wasn't doing well as an interviewee, but as the interview went on, I didn't feel that I was getting great feedback from some of the scientists and was becoming less and less interested in joining. Perhaps that was picked up on, because I did not receive an offer, though I did not think it was a good fit anyways.
The hiring manager, however, was very friendly and clear about the job and expectations. There were also several scientists and group directors who were also excellent and answered and asked great questions.
