Interviewed Jun 2011 in Walla Walla, WA (took 2 months)
I waited four months between application phase and hearing back from HR. Persistence is key. It's hard to get a job there; they are very picky. I had two intense group interviews, a 2-hour design test, and a 2-hour online skills test.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Walla Walla, WA (took 5 weeks)
Applied online, was contacted for a phone interview. Phone interview went well, proceeded to skills test (online test covering some of the major programs relating to the position). HR did a great job of keeping in touch, was very approachable and responsive. Was informed on a weekly basis of where they were in the process, and whether my candidacy was still being considered - even though it didn't work out, I was really impressed with the company and the way things were handled.

Interviewed Feb 2007 in Walla Walla, WA (took 4 weeks)
Beginning with one to one phone interview with HR rep, went through four or five interviews before being offered the position. During these sessions, had opportunity to ask every possible question about company and position, and received thoughtful, serious answers. Interviewers asked all basic questions about my background and inquired in detail about my work history, including daily tasks--type of editing, type of supervision, amount of independence, work style, etc. They probed attitudes, personality indicators, and character to ensure compatibility with their somewhat unique company--privately held by a family closely associated with a religious group, and anxious to maintain a congenial and mature work environment. Interviewers were professional, friendly, and welcoming. In all interviews, including panel by phone and in person, I felt that sincerity, articulate use of language, thoughtful answers, and evidence of a genuine interest in the company--including knowledge about its products, customers, and processes--were the points, in addition to relevant and proven skills, on which they made hiring judgments. There were no trick questions.
All the interviewers seemed to be enamored of the company, and employees are unlikely to voice a complaint out of channels. When I made a request after being hired, the matter was addressed immediately and diplomatically.
The work place is open--pseudo cubes, so that 3 - 12 or more people sit together in an area divided from other areas by portable walls about 64 inches tall.
Technology: MACs with MS Office
The company is very health conscious (it publishes health-news magazines, etc., for hospital and insurance industries), provides disinfectant hand wash; free soy milk, coffee, and peanut butter. It also encourages exercise during work, with cash bonuses for miles walked; it pays half of health-club membership and exercise equipment and shoes, and has a posture expert fit each employee with a chair.
Interview Questions
Questions that required thought were related to what I would do in a particular situation--if I ran out of work, for instance--and my answers were effectual because I had prepared some examples from past career positions of how I actually did react in trying situations.
Negotiation Details
I was at the end of UI resources and on the border of panic, so did not even try to negotiate. This is always a mistake, and I would encourage any candidate considering employment here to press the salary issue, and to inquire about other possible advantages the company might be able to offer to make up for what are very low salaries.

I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a Group/Panel Interview.
