Interviewed Nov 2011 in Sterling, VA (took 3 days)
The interview was a group of the Sales Managers asking you random stuff to gauge your sales experience, or your ability to be comfortable in the position.
Wasn't impressed walking through a warehouse to a run-down conference room.
Negotiation Details

Other Details
I got the interview through a Recruiter and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a Group/Panel Interview, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 2 days)
Based on the interview process experience I had with this company, it has problems. I was contacted via email by an in-house recruiter who scheduled a phone interview. I never got the call. Two days later I was contacted again by the recruiter via email, who apologized and rescheduled the initial phone interview. It was fairly routine and I was asked to go to the local office for additional interviews.
Once there, I met with a Director and another Manager together for a routine interview. After about 40 minutes, I was ushered to a conference room to meet with a VP from corporate who had flown in that morning. I noticed two other candidates sitting where I had been as I left. The process with the VP lasted another half hour or so and I was told there was some urgency to filling the role and to expect a decision in a week or two at most. I had to pay $17.50 for parking and went home.
Afterwards, I sent personal emails to each person I interviewed with and waited. After two weeks I followed up with the phone interviewer and the Director (hiring manager). No reply. I also saw the job still being posted. Another week and I followed up again. This time the hiring manager replied to let me know they were still in the process, that I was still a viable candidate and that the company recruiter/phone interviewer would let me know the outcome. She never did.
Seven months later I get an email from the SAME in-house recruiter requesting a phone interview for the SAME position at the SAME location. It was basically the same email too. I played along and scheduled a phone interview. Amazingly, it didn't happen again. Is this a coincidence or part of their strange process? A couple days later she apologized and we rescheduled. When we spoke again, I informed her that we had already gone through this process, provided her with the dates and details and she had no recollection of it. I politely declined to go through the tedious process where they don't have the courtesy to let you know what's going on following the interviews.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in San Francisco, CA (took 2 weeks)
They initially set up a phone interview with a hr representative from New York. The lady was very helpful and gave me some points as to prepare for the evaluation with the manager of the office I would be applying in the city. Pretty standard interview, go over history, and show them why they should put you through to the second interview. Lasts about 30-40 minutes but very pleasant
Second interview was horrible in the San Francisco office, the interim manager from San Jose was completely unprofessional and made me wait 30 minutes because he was on the phone with a higher up. Was reminded twice that I was waiting for the interview, but continually ignored the calls from other office workers. Looked at my resume in 2 minutes and finished asking me questions in another 1 minute. Explained the position, but looked at me dumbfounded if I had more questions for him since he felt that he had inconvenienced me. Walked out in 4 minutes, but didn't get the offer.

Interviewed May 2009 in Santa Clara, CA (took 2 weeks)
The interview process at Cogent is fairly painless and straightforward. I was interviewed by a junior HR member on the floor of a job fair, I was then interviewed by a senior HR director and she set up an appointment to interview on site at the local office with management. I then interviewed with the sales manager and sales director on two different days and was given an offer that week. The length of each interview was no longer than 90 minutes and no shorter than 10 minutes.

Negotiation Details
Although I did not negotiate my salary, some of my coworkers did. Cogent has limited flexibility, however, if pressed they will offer $5,000 more than the standard starting base of $40,000. The trade off is that after 6 months when most people become eligible for a raise, someone making $45k will be treated as though they have already been given it and will have to wait until 12 months of employment before being eligible for a pay increase.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview and a Background Check.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took 1+ week)
They are really bad at determining good talent and bad. They hire people that are dial monkeys with no knack for building relationships. It must be the new manager in the Midwest, but they hired some undeserving people. The phone interview was pretty basic, just added some questions about whether or not you're a "hunter". However, as bad as a few are, they have really hit the jackpot with some people here.....they know what they're doing. They just have bad managmement leadership at the office level.
I think in this case, the manager is just not smart to recognize good talent and bad. Great Company, bad managers. The Directors and C-Level guys know what they're doing, however. The CEO is a genius. The marketing person (1 man operation) is a joke, which is why know one knows about Cogent (yet) in the general public.

They tell you there is a pay raise if you meet quota. About 10 people at the company consistently hit their number since the rules on accounts is so out of control. They do things by the book.

Interviewed Apr 2010 (took 3 days)
Very standard interview- they ask about experience, why you would be a good fit for the company, how you handle stress, etc. None of the awkward "what's your biggest weakness" type of questioning. The first step of the interview process is a phone interview, followed by a second phone interview, and finally an in person interview at the office.
