Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Santa Clara, CA May 2009 – Reviewed Feb 22, 2011
Interview Details – The interview process at Cogent is fairly painless and straightforward. I was interviewed by a junior HR member on the floor of a job fair, I was then interviewed by a senior HR director and she set up an appointment to interview on site at the local office with management. I then interviewed with the sales manager and sales director on two different days and was given an offer that week. The length of each interview was no longer than 90 minutes and no shorter than 10 minutes.
Interview Question – How does your past experience translate to working here at Cogent? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Although I did not negotiate my salary, some of my coworkers did. Cogent has limited flexibility, however, if pressed they will offer $5,000 more than the standard starting base of $40,000. The trade off is that after 6 months when most people become eligible for a raise, someone making $45k will be treated as though they have already been given it and will have to wait until 12 months of employment before being eligible for a pay increase.
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Sep 2010 – Reviewed Jul 28, 2011
Interview Details – Recruiter from Cogent called me after I posted my resume, passed the phone interview, told me the salary and benefits, went into have a 1:1 interview, they take you in the conference room, want to make sure that you know what your getting your self into, emphasize that it is a diffcult job, etc...
Negotiation Details – There is no negotiation, the salary no matter where you are in the United States is $40,000 for a starting Regional Account Manager.

Interview Details –
They are really bad at determining good talent and bad. They hire people that are dial monkeys with no knack for building relationships. It must be the new manager in the Midwest, but they hired some undeserving people. The phone interview was pretty basic, just added some questions about whether or not you're a "hunter". However, as bad as a few are, they have really hit the jackpot with some people here.....they know what they're doing. They just have bad managmement leadership at the office level.
I think in this case, the manager is just not smart to recognize good talent and bad. Great Company, bad managers. The Directors and C-Level guys know what they're doing, however. The CEO is a genius. The marketing person (1 man operation) is a joke, which is why know one knows about Cogent (yet) in the general public.
Interview Question – Are you a hunter? View Answer
Negotiation Details – They tell you there is a pay raise if you meet quota. About 10 people at the company consistently hit their number since the rules on accounts is so out of control. They do things by the book.
