    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Cognizant Technology Solutions (Oakland, CA) in December 2011.

    Interview

Hiring process happens in steps as below: a. Hiring Manager calls to have a discussion with you b. Talent Acquisition HR Team member calls up to negotiate salary terms and conditions, sponsorship any other compensation benefits you are looking for. c. Once internally approved by hiring manager, client and HR policies, Account HR calls to confirm on joining date and further details such as payroll, relocation compensation, etc. d. CTS provides, provisional offer letter for first 3 months, post joining and thorough third party background verification, upon meeting the project requirements, they offer you a Formal Offer Letter. This is when you are completely into their system as an employee.

    Interview Questions

    • Have you ever been a Lead Engineer with only one Engineer who would deal with rest of the teams in the company? How would you face intense pressure with short deadlines?   Answer Question

    Negotiation

Be clear with HR, make your negotiations firm with right reasons for you being hired. Check for location specific benefits and hierarchy level based position that is being offered, ex. Analyst, Jr Analyst, Sr. Analyst, Manager, Project Manager. If you are looking for Visa sponsorship, you will need Manager to approve and lots of process needs to be followed even to initiate H1B in the system. Well, in my experience most of the consulting firms from India, have lots of politics from Manager and above levels, while Executive level does not have much to deal with. So if you are experienced then make sure you look for Manager and above positions only for all the consulting firms, period.
