Interviewed Apr 2012 (took 2 months)
My first interview was a phone interview with one of the general managers. The interview was about a half hour long and the questions were based on my experience. The manager also shared some information with me about the company and their views. I then did a 1:1 interview with the general manager of another local store. The interviewer asked questions that would assess my ability to fit in to their company culture, which is quite unique. I did extensive online research prior to the interview, which was quite helpful. A store manager joined us for some questions. The next interview was with the district manager ("area manager" in Container Store terms) and 2 general managers. Their questions were all directed toward my ability to fit into their company culture.
Every person that I spoke to was very professional and passionate about their company. I enjoyed meeting and talking to each of them.
For anyone who is applying to this company, be prepared for a drawn out interview process. The only negative part of my experience was the length of the process and the time it took for them to get back to me after each step. You will probably need to intiate all follow-up.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Houston, TX (took 3 weeks)
I was contacted by the General Area Director for a phone screening then invited to an in person interview. My in person interview was with 2 General Area Directors and a Store Manager. The in person interview was about 1.5 hours long. I felt comfortable with those asking the questions and the process as they defined the culture. My disappointment came from after the process whereby my thank you email was responded to with a "i'll definitely be in touch by the end of the following week" which sounded promising. I did not get a response as mentioned in the email. So when I wrote back, I was told they had other candidates to still interview and that they would get back to me by the middle of the week. That also did not happen. On the next day I received an email stating that they had one more person to meet with and that they would get back to me after doing so. All still sounded somewhat promising. Finally at the end of the week, one week past the prior commitment, I received a rejection voicemail. I was strung along during this whole process.

Interviewed May 2011 (took 4+ weeks)
applied online; recevied email requesting phone interview which was with recruiter. then phone interview with the regional director. had to answer 2 questions about their work philosophies. then face to face with district manager and another store manager. another phone interview with both dm and regional manager. another follow up phone call with dm. then the turn down phone call- which was scheduled via email.
none of the interviews focused on my work history- i made sure to include it in my answers. their big focus was interviewing for their culture and their work philosophies. you need to do your research before your first interview. they send a very nice PR packet and expect you to read it.

Interviewed Jun 2009 (took 2 days)
Meet with General Manager and store manager team. Watched video presentations about the store and then did some interactive 1:1 interviews on the sales floor. Staff was very welcoming and shared a ton of information about the company and work environment. I thought it gave me a great look into the environment and culture of the company
