Interviewed Oct 2011 in Longview, TX (took 2 days)
So my interview with Convergys was strange (because it obviously is a strange place to work.) I was on the phone the entire time with a woman who was too cheerful and had a much to high pitched voice. I was on the phone about 3 times talking with the recruiter and the conversation consisted of questions some what like these questions: 1. Find something in the room and sale it to me. 2. Are you able to look at more than one web page at a time? 3. Do you have a clean background? Ect ect.. I was asked more than 3 times at least if I was looking into any other jobs other than this one and I said repeatedly no, no and no. My perception of the people are they are putting on a show that makes the environment seem happy and cheerful, and it is until you get on the production floor. Please do not fall into their game. After the phone interview I went into the center to have a orientation and that is where they offer you the job and you sign the papers and officially ruin your life (hopefully only briefly). They wil hire anybody who is not a felon and can type 20 wpm. It was a negative experience because it all turned out to be just a show for new comers.

Interviewed May 2011 in Chattanooga, TN (took 3 days)
The interview consisted of an application obviously, but after that I was contacted by email describing how I fit their needs for the position. Afterwards I was asked to take a few assessments to see if I could actually do what was going to be asked of me on the job. There was a personality test which is easy to manipulate, following was a typing test to see how fast you could type which could be difficult to some but for most is pretty easy. The final assessment proved to be rather difficult. It was a math test, at first it was very simple math, then progressively advanced in difficulty. It proceeded with basic algebra but the final ten to fifteen questions were pattern problems, what number comes next kind of questions. Failure can easily be avoided by simple copy-paste into search engine tactics. The next day I was contacted via phone and I could easily tell after about a min or two I was called because they were offering me the job, even though it was vaguely masked as a 'phone interview' in which there is a possibility you might not succeed. I guess it is a possibility but all that was asked was, how have I handled (a certain situation like unhappy customer, or showing up to work late) previously. And that was it. The only negative was there was no face to face with a recruiter, and a big thing for me was not being able to see the day to day operations. At that time it wouldn't have changed my mind on taking the job because I needed the money, but if you currently have a job in which you are happy and just looking for a switch or have the resources to continue you job search without any negative financial impact, I would highly consider looking else where.

Negotiation Details
There wasn't any negotiation as far as pay goes, the only negotiation was start date. The great thing about working at a call center is there are tens if not close to a hundred people with the same job so if you start tomorrow or start in three weeks it won't matter ultimately to the company.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a Skills Test, a Personality Test, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 2 days)
Was required to test personal computer for compatibility with software, do an internet speed and voip quality test, required to go to lab for drug screening (company paid), and consent to a background check. Once you apply online, when Convergys is hiring a recruiter will email you requesting you email back. Once you do, you move forward into the hiring process. Over the next 2 days you will speak to multiple recruiters who will ask your availability, for resumes or a completed application, etc. If you make it to an official interview, it is conducted by phone and will be asked general questions. You will be told right away if you are hired or not, if so, you will be required to submit paperwork (W-4, etc.) online, as well as appear before a notary to have your identity verified and signed off on. Everything is done electronically. Once hired, you will be required to purchase a usb headset, told about pay, asked to sign a copy of your job offer, etc. Benefits, payroll, etc. is not discussed until the 3rd day of training.

Negotiation Details
No negotiation. Payscales are set and if you are not comfortable with the pay, you will not be offered the job. There are also no raises. You are locked into your pay as long as you remain in that position (outside of a $1.30/hr pay increase for performance). Ex. If you are paid $9/hr, the most you will ever make - even if you work there for 3 years - is $10.30/hr with a performance increase.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Chattanooga, TN (took 3 days)
My husband worked here to get us through a tight spot, and now it is my turn. They asked very easy questions, like, "name a time when you dealt with a difficult customer, and what were the results?"
I went to HR and filled out the application and did a simple typing and math skills test. I passed both, and the clerk said that a recruiter would call me within one or two days. She called to set up a phone interview the next day. The interview lasted about 10 minutes, and she offered me the job.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Charlotte, NC (took a day)
Applied online for a Work at Home customer service position in December. Three months later I received an email inviting me to complete a battery of assessments beginning with an internet speed test for my home network. After passing the speed test, I completed a couple of online assessments for Customer Service skills, typing speed, etc. Completed assessments on Thursday night, had a phone interview Friday morning, which was very brief and easy...sent to drug testing on Monday morning, and in training by Monday afternoon.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Wichita, KS (took 3 days)
Interview process was very easy. Consisted of an online application on the Convergys website in the work from home section, some computer testing, a background and credit check, some skills testing, an easy phone interview, and mailing of I-9 forms. The most difficult part of the job is the setup of the virtual environment with the VOIP softphones and they are different depending on the project you are working on. The system that they use is unstable much of the time and there's not much they can really do about it. I've actually been with the company since 7/2008, but the dates didn't go back that far.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Valdosta, GA (took 2 days)
I applied online through the Convergy's website in early September and received a call to schedule the assessment test a couple weeks later. There were several other candidates scheduled on the same day, and several days of assessments throughout the week...not surprising considering the current job market. The assessment test was harder than expected. Not all of the test, but in particular, a series of questions where you had to choose the number which best completed a sequence was challenging...especially in lieu of the assessment being timed. Some were easily identified (each number being multiplied by the sum of the two previous numbers and the like) but some were ridiculously hard...involving square roots placed after multiple sequences of seemingly random numbers. Then came the standard personality test in which you're asked several questions geared to rank your confidence, honestly, and strengths as a sales person. Some were hard to answer as they were specific to commission based jobs, but you can just muddle your way through those. Finally (or should I say first, as it was the first test in the series), you have a mock simulation of taking a sales call. This test was actually fun as you had to input the information as the recorded message prompted you, and they tried to include a variety of recordings which included archetypal customers such as "the befuddled woman," "the angry NJ jerk," and "the sweet and indecisive granny." I passed the assessment my first try and had a phone interview scheduled for the day after.
The phone interview was pretty seamless. Typical questions that required you to pull from previous work experience. I think this part would be challenging if it was given to someone who had no prior work experience. Every question required you to give an example of meeting certain challenges and how you overcame them in your previous employment. Questions like "give an example of an occasion in which you had to multi-task" or "give an example of when you had to deal with a situation where you were ill qualified to answer questions from a customer," etc...
At the conclusion of all questions, the job was offered to me, and we set up an appointment for training.
Easy as pie.
One thing I'd like to mention though. I've not worked at Convergy's yet, but I've seen the other posters mention outdated equipment and a couple of other negative comments. I can't attest to them with certainty, but I will mention that the computer for my assessment froze on three occasions and two other testers also complained about their computers freezing as well. The front office was fairly clean and the landscape/exterior is beautifully maintained. I didn't get a good look at the cubicles, but I did see some evidence of less than professional mannerisms from a couple of the employees. I don't want to get specific, but let's just say that I think a lot of the negative comments listed here might be on the dot. However, I've gone three months without a job, and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to work. As long as they cut me a check, they'll have to pull me, kicking and screaming, away from those headphones.
