    Interview

Fun, jokey, very informative about the role, brief. I applied on line, received a phone to come in for a interview, when I did I joined the queue then got to the till and said that I'm here for a job interview, I went and sat at the table with the manager and had the interview, was offered to come in for a trial day which was one of the hottest days of the year and I stupidly wore make up and there was no air-con.

    Interview

I applied in person, i gave my CV and covering letter in on the saturday. By the following tuesday, i revieved an email from the manager, who i called back and arranged an interview for the tuesday after. I arrived 10 minutues early and waited in the queue where i then explained i was there for an interview, he offered me a drink and asked me to find a place to sit to wait for the manager to come out. The interview itself was smooth with no hassle at all, it lasted about 15 minutes. The manager then explained how he had a few more interviews and how after that, he will contact us for a trial work day. As this was today, i havent yet got an offer.

    Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Costa Coffee.

    Interview

I emailed my CV to the manager of the store and received a phone call inviting me for an interview. It was a very informal chat and was only asked a few questions. I was asked what motivates me? Why do I want to work for Costa Coffee? Do I like coffee? I was then told that I would hear back two days later. I received a phone call six days later to say that I had been successful but would need a trial shift first. I made five attempts to phone the manager to arrange a trial shift but he never returned my phone call. I then decided to go into the store myself to talk to the manager. He apologised for messing me around and asked me to come into the store that week for a two hour unpaid trial shift. At my trial shift I was trained on the till and cleared the tables. The manager was not even in the store for the majority of my shift and was trained by a fellow colleague. Before I left he told me that I had done fantastic and would definitely receive a phone call two days later and would not be messed around again. It has been seven weeks and have never heard from them, I decided not to chase it up as I could not work for somebody so unreliable.

    Interview

Applied online and receievd a telephone interview within the next 2 weeks, then invitation to Assessment Day within a week. On the assessment day, the face to face interview questions mainly consisted of competency based questions and were quite repetitive so you could run out of examples.

    Barista Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Epping, England (UK)

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Costa Coffee (Epping, England (UK)) in May 2015.

    Interview

I gave my CV to the Assistant Manager in-store and received a phone call a couple days later asking me to come in for an interview. The interview was quite laidback and with the Store Manager (who was very nice and welcoming). After the interview, I was invited to an OJE (On the Job Experience) the next day. During this I was given experience on the tills and on the floor (clearing tables, sweeping, etc). I was even given the opportunity to make two coffees for customers, which unfortunately didn't go well as I was told to make it how I had learnt to make it in my previous job. This way (holding the milk jug while heating the milk) isn't the way it's done by Costa Baristas, as the Barista Maestro told me, and I was left with a cappuccino with not enough foam and a latte with too much. I was told I'd be contacted on Tuesday (three days later) to inform me of the decision but unfortunately I wasn't told of the decision until I called 8 days later.

    Operations Graduate Scheme Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in London, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Positive Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Costa Coffee (London, England (UK)) in May 2015.

    Interview

I'm still in the application process; this applies up to and including the phone interview stage for which I'm still awaiting the outcome as I only did it this week. I haven't been rejected, or accepted or declined an offer. It's a new scheme they're doing and as such there's no information/help about it online so I wanted to post these questions to help others before I forget them. Applied through a job board (Indeed, TargetJobs etc.) with CV and short covering message. Invited to complete online test which IIRC was a numerical reasoning test. Passed this stage and was invited to phone interview which I had this week. It felt more like a chat than an interview; the lady was an area manager rather than some HR person who may or may not know a single thing about what the role actually entails. She made it feel somewhat informal (in a good way) and genuinely just getting to know a bit about you, rather than judging whether or not you're good enough for them.

    Interview Questions

    • In no particular order: 1) Why Costa? 2) What else have you applied for? 3) These are some of our values....what are your own values? 4) Some skills that you'd bring? (Basically, what are your strengths) 5) A weakness? What made you realise that was a weakness? 6) What will you do if you're unsuccessful? 7) Where do you see yourself in 4/5 years time? 8) A time you've had to deliver a difficult message/bad news? 9) What role do you think operations plays/who is the operations team's customer? Also queried a few skills I had included on my CV (E.g. attention to detail, communication etc.) and asked for an example.   Answer Question
