    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 12+ months. I interviewed at County of Santa Clara (Santa Clara, CA).

    Interview

Applied in February-March, took an exam in April. You must pass this test within the top percentages to be considered a candidate. Every year they have this test, so the roster expires after a year. Once any position opens up, they will schedule interviews to the top scorers and so forth down the list. I was called in for multiple interviews for different county departments approximately 10 months after taking the test, but only interviewed once since I declined the rest of them. The interview process took about 2 weeks for me. First interview was with a panel of 4, and they took turns asking questions about work experience. I was surprised I didn't get the commonly asked questions, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years or what are your strengths and weaknesses?” Afterwards they reached out to me for a second informal interview providing a tour of the facilities and meeting the team.

    Interview Questions

    • Please provide a summary of your working history and how does it apply to this position? Why should we choose you as the candidate for this position? Please provide an example of a time where you had helped someone in a working environment?   Answer Question

    Interview

After you submit an application online, it takes months (depending on how soon they need candidates) to get a response. If you are chosen to take the exam, that is scheduled. After passing and ranking, you will then be offered a panel interview with 3 people and asked 10 questions that they need specific answers to. They will then do references checks and backgrounds checks before offering you the position.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at County of Santa Clara.

    Interview

Applied online, process took 2+ months and involved invitation to written exam @ county cafeteria with maybe 200 others, then based on the results you may move to the next phase and be required to contact the department to schedule your interview. The interviews are panels of 3+ with set questions, most of them printed and written in front of you. Some departments will do phone screening first but most seem to schedule in person interviews. They notify you of results usually within a week or two.

    Interview Questions

    • None too difficult, fairly standard questions. You won't get 'why do you want to work here.' But things like 'tell me about yourself,' 'what's your strengths/weaknesses,' and specific skills required for the job which can be difficult to answer as specific tech tools aren't listed on the job description and interviewers won't always be knowledgeable enough to work the interview to fit the candidate's experience. It's a coveted employer so they probably don't need to.   Answer Question

You have to pass the exam and at least in the top 10 to be invited with a face-to-face interview. The interview process takes only 20 minutes with a panel of 2. A word of advice. Do not schedule an interview on Mondays or Fridays.

    Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2+ weeks. I interviewed at County of Santa Clara (San Jose, CA) in May 2011.

    Interview

Unclassified positions may be hired more quickly than classified. Unclassified positions are for a maximum duration of 18 months and have full benefits. The interview was less structured than for a classifed position with fixed questions and interview panel. For the position I was interviewed for, the interview was 2.5 hours with 4 interviewers. Note: criminal background and fingerprints required for some positions. Basic health exam required. TB test required for some positions.

    Interview Questions

    • Generally questions were about how I would manage different types of IT projects in infrastructure, business analysis, asset management, etc. I was interviewing them as much as they were interviewing me. I was impressed with their strategies and personal integrity, so accepted the offer.   Answer Question
