Interview Details – The response to my initial application and process proceeding was very rapid. I submitted a resume to the careers page of their website and within a couple of hours, I had a phone interview with HR. The next day, I had a face-to-face interview request set up for the following week. I had two interviews. The first one was with a lady that was very nice, and I felt it went great. lots of behavorial questions. The second interview was with a very unpleasant and quite rude guy. Did not seem to want to be there at all and gave me the feeling I should not be there as well.

Interview Questions
No Offer – Interviewed in Madison, WI Mar 2012 – Reviewed Mar 28, 2012
Interview Details – Applied online and was contacted by an HR representative for a brief phone screening interview. The HR person was very personable and knowledgeable. She was fairly confident I would be moving to the next step, a phone interview with the hiring manager. I did have that interview and it went very well. Basic experience questions and why I wanted to work at Covance and in this position- description of the position itself and goals and objectives of the position (it is a new position). After these interviews, I was very excited as I felt I had great controller experience (25+ years in accounting/finance), superior management and staff development skills and the ability to transcend accounting and work with non- finanical based operational staff. I was contacted within days to schedule an onsite interview in the Madison, WI location. I was told from the outset that the face to face interviews were entirely behavior based- your response should be situation-action-result. I was comfortable with that because after +25 years, I have many ways to demonstrate my actions and results. Covance was extremely flexible with accomodating my crazy travel schedule- I was delayed unexpectedly overnight in Cleveland when I was supposed to be in Madison in the morning for an interview- Covance was great in rearranging the interview for the afternoon. When I got to the location- friendly receptionist, great environment, comfortable interview setting. I went through 3 face to face interviews that day- 1 with the hiring manager, 2 with associates who I would be working with. I felt the hiring manager and I really clicked- the purpose of the new position to be someone who could be a right-hand support. The other interviewers were well prepared and asked good behavior based questions that focused mainly on more developing staff, satisfying customers, etc... I felt very confident after that round, and was contacted within days again that I was moving to the next round. One interview would be a phone interview with an individual from Corporate FInance in NJ, the other two would be in Madison again. The phone interview was a bit different- it appeared the interviewer did not know anything about me, did not know I had already been in Madison for interviews, asked some very detailed accounting based questions when I expected more behavior questions, etc... I admit, I did not fee confident about that interview. Once again, the next two interviews in Madison exhibited the Covance representative's ability to be flexible due to my travel schedule. My interviews were very positive and I felt a definite connection and confidence in my ability to provide the impact they were looking for. The questions were very focused again on behaviors- in particular, developing staff etc... I left that interview confident I would receive an offer. However, 2 weeks went by and eventually, the HR rep called to tell me she was disappointed they had decided to start over on their search. I have been in my own business for 2 years and lead a Finance Program Management office for 2 years before that. From what I was told, the 4 years I was out of "accounting and controllership" functions made the difference. If I were to speculate based on the feedback I received, I would guess the Corporate person from NJ made the difference and overrode the recommendations of the Madison team. Unfortunate because I would have loved to work at Covance and still feel it would have been a perfect fit.
