Interviewed Aug 2010 (took 4 weeks)
The interview process that I went through was very thorough. The position was for a medical device sales rep in the SE United States. I had four different interviews, so I essentially made it to the final round. The questions were very detailed and almost entirely behavioral-based questions. I interviewed for a few different medical device and pharma sales positions, and Covidien's interview process was definitely the most professional. When I did not get the offer I was given concrete feedback on what I could do to improve, which I appreciated. Bottom line, prepare for several rounds of interviews and many behavioral questions. They were definitely placing emphasis on fidning the right fit vice rushing to fill the vacant position, so bring your A game.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Carlsbad, CA (took 5 days)
The process went very smoothly as expected from a mature company with well defined roles and processes. Three managers conducted the interviews and asked the usual background questions, only one person had a brain teaser type question.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took a day)
HR (or recruiter) called and asked me a couple of questions, and then asked how much I made at my last job. After I told her, she then said "Well, are there any questions you would like to ask...?" I guess she didn't have any other questions for me after I told her my last salary (it must have been much more than they were paying and I would have taken a less paying job). After I asked her a few questions that she could not answer, she then said, "We'll keep in touch". Yeah, right. I wish companies would put a salary range in what they are paying and let the appying individual determine if the pay is enough for them.

Interviewed Nov 2009 (took 2 weeks)
What interviewer wanted to know the most was why I choose Covidien. This question was asked at any selectional steps.
And it is very important to indicate how you promoted sales in your former career. More concrete score you show, more convincing.

Interviewed May 2011 in New Haven, CT (took 4 weeks)
Started with three rounds of phone interviews. The interviews themselves went very smoothly, only being asked open ended questions regarding my past experience listed on my resume. The only problem was I would go about 7-10 days before I would hear the next step in the process.
The final face to face interview seemed almost a repeat of the phone interviews, except you met with specific leaders of the program being applied for.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Boulder, CO (took 4+ weeks)
1.5 months represents the time from submitting an application online through offer outcome (offer/no offer decision). The phone screen was 30 minutes with the hiring manager and the group director. The on-site interview was a half day, interviewing with 5 people (group director, manager, a 2nd manager, technical leader, and HR). None of the interviews were highly technical (i.e. no "grilling" on specific technical topics or "solve this problem" to see how you think/approach problems), really more a discussion of previous projects. The three manager/tech leader interviewers each had a behavioral question assigned by HR, but they all seemed to be embarrassed to have to ask them.
Note that many of the engineering job descriptions posted on the website for this particular division are sometimes vague; make sure that you flesh-out job requirements as much as you can through networking and asking questions when you are given the opportunity through any of the interviews.
