Declined Offer – Interviewed in Raleigh, NC Feb 2012 – Reviewed Apr 24, 2013
Interview Details – Very cut and dry process - one hour interview, split into two separate ones. First had two people in it - asked extremely boring questions, weaknesses, strengths, how do you go about solving a problem, leadership, etc. Second asked similar questions. Overall, it was an easy interview, however it showed a lack of creativity on their part and did not seem like an exciting job at all.
Interview Question – No difficult questions Answer Question
Reason for Declining – The department the job was in did not seem like a good fit - the people who interviewed seemed boring.

Interview Details –
Applied through school's career services system (I'm at a target)
1st round - 30 min on-campus. Mostly fit, a few basic multiplication questions
Superday - four 30 minute interviews. Usually there were 2 people interviewing me at a time. Basic questions about valuation, accounting, why I wanted to be their slave, arithmetic, stuff that any future monkey should now.
I was too unspecific in my answers and asked some really dumb questions (e.g. how's the weather there?). Don't be dumb.
Interview Question – How do you calculate free cash flow? Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in San Francisco, CA Aug 2011 – Reviewed Apr 16, 2013
Interview Details – First phone call with a senior analyst and then a coffee meet-up with another senior analyst to chat and see if you're a good fit for the group. Then invited a superday, where you meet with five senior bankers. Most of them ask you why banking and want to talk about your background. Then some accounting and finance questions, basics of a leveraged buyout, how does depreciation affect the financial statements, how do you calculate free cash flow, walk me through a DCF
Interview Question – What characteristics in a company do you look for for a good LBO candidate? View Answer
Negotiation Details – No negotiation for investment banking analysts at bulge bracket firms
No Offer – Reviewed Apr 4, 2013
Interview Details –
The interview was through my school's career center and my interviewer was an alumni. Previous to the interview, students were invited to a nice fancy dinner where we talked casually.
The interview was purely behavioral - nothing technical. It was very typical - why do you want to go into finance, do you take charge when you work in groups, what's your favorite/ least favorite class. etc.
It lasted about half and hour or so.
Accepted Offer – Reviewed Apr 1, 2013
Interview Details – I was referred, so had a leg up on the process. I interviewed with my manager and HR twice before being brought in to a very extensive super day style interviews. I interviewed with four MD's and 2 Director's. I sensed that this was mostly about determining fit, and I was able to connect with them easily. People were pretty honest and forthcoming about challenges of CS as well as the upsides.
Interview Question – I had to walk through a project initiation with a manager. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I negotiated up 20% - there is more room.
