Cost Reduction Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
Columbus, IN

I applied through college or university and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Cummins in March 2011.

Interview Details – I applied through my campus career center. I was contacted via email by a recruiting agency to fill out some behavioral questions that they discussed with me during the phone interview a couple of days later. Try to give very good responses to these questions because they score them and if you score well they move you forward to an interview with a hiring manager. The hiring manager interview was about a month later and it consisted of a resume run-through and a description of the position. After 2 weeks I was invited for an onsite-visit which consisted of a morning presentation, a tour of the facility, a tour of the community, and a meeting with your hiring manager. It is pretty much a day dedicated to trying to sell Cummins to the candidates. As long as you don't send any really bad vibes than you will pretty much get an offer. I received an offer a week later via email

Reason for Declining – I accepted another offer in a location I preferred over Indiana. I found the Columbus community to be a great place to raise a family but not necessarily the best place for a new college graduate. It seemed the company was a little slow-paced and the work for the positon I was getting hired into wasn't as technical as I would have liked. Great people there though. Everyone is very friendly and I would have loved to work for my hiring manager, he seemed really cool.
