I interviewed through an employee referral. The process took 10 months - interviewed at DFS Group.

Interview Details

Many rounds of interview over a 10 month process. There is a 2 hour long phone interview with standardised questions, a panel interview, and also interviews with hiring managers individually. It takes time for them to get back to you, so patience is key. They look for people who know what they want, are passionate about the retail industry, and know what service delivery means. Service and people are a huge part of the DFS culture.

Interview Questions
  • Standardised interview was the most difficult part of the interview as it requires you to remain focused for a long period of time on the telephone.   Answer Question

Had a group presentation. The group was split in to two, each group presents the assigned topic in Chinese and another in English. After each part you would give feedback to the other group. Time was very tight for preparation, there was a lot of improvisation.

Second part was a team building exercise, working through a maze.

Lastly, there was a short writing assessment and a test on some excel skills.

Firstly i received a call for group interview upon my application. It was a good experience to attend the group interview, as you can see a handful of competitive candidates competing. But sadly somebody cut throat and compete in a unhealthy way. I suggestion is to be yourself, and present your best side to the interviewers. Most importably, treat this as a learning expensive and not focusing on too much whether you can get the job

I interviewed through college or university - interviewed at DFS Group in February 2014.

    Interview Details

Assessment centre was not as stressful as expected, pretty light-hearted and very friendly people. Total of 15 people, split into 3 groups of 5. Had to do 2 case discussions with only 5 minutes to discuss and 5 minutes to present. Being able to think on your feet is very important and almost no preparation can be done for it. Case questions were very real life management problems.

You will be grouped into groups of 5 right from the start. Then you do a self introduction and they will continue with a briefing of DFS. Afterwards, you will be given 5 mins to work on a case study and present within 5 mins immediately your discussion. This process will repeat twice. Got called up for the first round which was the group assessment centre at their Scottswalk office. It lasted for about five hours and mostly comprised of case studies done in groups of 4 to 5. The case studies were problems that the MTs have encountered while on the job, so they want to see how you would approach these problems (and take note, they only give 5 minutes per case for a team to work on the solutions). Groups can present in any format, from role plays to simple reading off the list, etc.

Other components involved a 15-minute writing test that is also a similar case question (short one), and tests your ability to resolve the problem in the short amount of tiem given.
