Interviewed Nov 2011 in Chicago, IL (took 4+ weeks)
First I received a call from the hiring manager at the particular school or college to confirm my interest, then to notify me that HR would call schedule an interview with them.
HR called shortly thereafter to schedule an in-person interview with them. The HR interview included general questions about working at an academic institution, then general questions related to the position itself. The responses to those questions would be relayed to the hiring manager to determine if a second interview was warranted.
I then received a call from the hiring manager to schedule an in-person interview. A few days later, I had a friendly conversation with hiring manager to review my background; the job in greater detail; the school/college itself; and the selection committee which I was about to meet. The committee, comprised of faculty and staff, asked very specific questions related to the job, and I was also invited to ask questions of them. The total interview lasted about one-and-a-half hours.
I received a call about ten days later from the hiring manager informing me of their decision.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Chicago, IL (took 7 weeks)
I first has a phone interviewer with one of the staffing recruiters in early June. By the end of June I had received a phone call back that I was one of the finalists. I then had another phone interview with the recruiter and set up a time for an in person interview. The interview was about 1 hour long and included the whole team I would be working with including the person I would be replacing. I then took a basic Microsoft Office test. I later received an email stating that I was one of the finalists and they asked me to create a presentation on a set of data information that they had provided.

Interviewed May 2009 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
HR does a brief phone interview and then the actual department does the interviewing so it was with the immediate supervisor. Easy interview - more conversational. Seemed like if you make a personal connection, you do well. Of course, I had the experience they were asking for. I think it was clear that we got along well and therefore, I was more at ease and it was a good fit for everyone.

The interview process goes as such. You have a group interview then a single interview if you make the group process. Here are some tips for the group interview
- Don't insult anyone
- Give people compliments
- Try to be a team player
- Let others take the lead
- Get others to give feedback
RA'ing is all about putting a fake face on to build community. So, just think off all the bad things people do in group situations and just don't do those things. I remember when I was a proctor of these interviews we hated individuals who just took charge the whole time. Leadership is good, not including others and shooting down other people's ideas isn't. Let others speak and include them and don't be obnoxious.
The single interview is quite easy:
- First and foremost know DePaul's mission statement and its values.
- Read up on conflict managment. They will ask you questions about how you would solve a conflict just don't say anything stuipd such as "I would yell at the person". Talk about how you would look at both sides and stay calm during these kinds of situations.
- They'll ask you how you would build community just have some ideas on how you would do that in a Residence Hall. Cookies for everyone, go out and see a show in Chicago you know things like that.
- One question that usually trumps people is "How you would helped underepresented minorities?" this could include the LGBTQ community, African Americans, Asians and such. Just a tip, if you are a underepresented minority yes talk about your own self however focus on other minorities. We always get the LGBTQ guy or girl who just talks about the LGBTQ community. Yes, we know you can be an advocate for them but how can you be an advocate for others?
Answer: talk about how you'll get involved with on-campus stuff that already exists.
Couple other tips:
Just think professional and practice. If you need someone to repeat the question again ask and don't be afraid to ask for clarification. If you don't know an answer or can't think of something on the spot just make up something that makes you look good.

Interviewed Aug 2009 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
I only interviewed with the two people I would be reporting to. The process was simple. Each department here has a different way of interviewing, so it's difficult to give any advice here. Just make sure you have researched the company and the department that you are interviewing with. DePaul is big on giving and volunteering, so having that on your resume is a plus.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Chicago, IL (took 2 weeks)
The Director of the International Programs Office made an initial call to me from home at dinnertime with her young child in the background and talked with me for 45 minutes. She set up an official phone interview with her for the next day. The day after that I had another phone interview with the person who left the position the year before and who now lives in Canada. I also had to write 2 essays and then I had an in-person interview with the Director and two staff members. Before the interview began I had to do a crazy timed test that checked my accuracy skills. I had to ask to have a tour of the office and when she gave me the tour, she ran around pointing at doors and couldn't seem to get rid of me fast enough. This position has been open for two years and I know many colleagues who are well- qualified and have interviewed for the position but no one has been given an offer. The Director told me that she and the previous employee were like sisters and she seemed to place a lot of weight on the "right personality fit." I think she's looking for another sister.
