Interviewed Oct 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 weeks)
The first round interview was a computer based exercise which essentially was dealing with an inbox of emails. Work quickly, take notes and stay organised and on top of things. At the end, you need to formulate a letter of recommendation so keep that in mind while working through it.
This was followed by a 1:1 interview which was competency based. Know the skills they are looking for and have several examples for each.
The second round interview required me to prepare a short presentation on a topic given to you, related to the area you are applying for. Mine was on something I've never worked on before. I found it hard to find information. I went to a large bookshop and bought books on taxation as I couldn't find much online. Expect really hard, probing questions. I only had two days to prepare mine (due to other commitments) and felt I was terribly under-prepared. Even though I gave a good presentation, I think my inability to answer more detailed question on the topic put me down. It did feel a bit unfair though, as they were difficult questions that even my friends working in finance did not know how to answer. So I would say prepare the most for this part. Read as much as you can, really get in touch with all the people you can that know the area you are applying for and pick their brains. Following this, there were more competency based questions some that were about the same skills and some on other skills. Again, it's good to try to have more examples than you need, so you can tailor it to what you feel your interviewer is interested in.
Unfortunately I didn't proceed to the final round and even though I tried to get feedback, no one returned my calls, which made this a negative interview process overall as I didn't learn as much as I could have.
