The best answer: In my situation, I wrote a white paper explaining my technical approach, the other guy wrote a paper on his approach. The team read both papers and came to a conclusion. In situations where one approach has a negative [present or future] impact on the project, naturally the non-impacting approach is usually chosen.
The worst answer: "Have you ever seen a UFC match? Well..."
